Our 4 questions for you: Answered them yet?
June 1, 2011 at 1:15 am | In Opinion, West Seattle online | 8 CommentsCan you spare a few minutes to help us evaluate the present and look to the future? We appreciate any time you can take to answer “4 Questions for You, from WSB.” Considering we buried the link’s debut at the end of a loooong story late Monday night, we’re heartened by how many people still managed to find it and use it. But in case you missed that link, here it is again. We hope you’ll consider taking a few minutes to answer those 4 questions sometime in the next few days (we’re only keeping it up for a week, figuring that most regulars will have seen it by then). Thank you!

Oh, talk about tough questions… narrowing down to one thing I like most about WSB!
Comment by Eric B — 5:11 am June 1, 2011 #
I’m with you Eric B; I opened the link, but, oh my, way too hard; best? worst?
~
one thing I’d like to see is Birth & Adoption announcements, celebrating & welcoming new persons to our community; and learning more about people while they’re alive, not just obits; I know TR has said she’d be glad to run birth announcements, but not sure how many know this is an option
~
in the past, newspapers always had a column for birth announcements, which were wonderful
~
how ‘bout a monthly list of additions to families, of course to include adoptions, and post photos with brief summaries of families

thanks – please please post in the form if you can, it keeps everything in one place in a separate database (via the same form provider we use for Garage Sale Day, keeps us from having to reinvent a technological wheel) so that when the week is up we can efficiently analyze for trends/commonalities/recurring themes, in addition to of course reading each and every one! thank you again SO much to the hundreds who have taken the time – TR

Will results be posted?
Comment by John M. — 10:57 am June 1, 2011 #
We’ll certainly write about it, but since these are open-ended questions, there’s no way to say “x percent said x, x percent said y” – believe me, from grazing about half of them so far, the answers are wide-ranging (which is great) – and most of the more common “what’s missing?” answers list features we have in development now already!
.
The most important result is what you and everyone else who comes here for the news, discussion, information, etc., think of the way the service continues to evolve – and how we as site owners respond to what we hear. Almost everything the site is today, is the result of us responding to suggestions, questions, requests (going all the way back to the 2006 windstorm, when people couldn’t find much West Seattle-specific news about the power outages, and wondered if we could) without a formalized means of input like this … but we realize that especially now that the readership is up to 30,000 homes/businesses per week (900,000+ pageviews a month), it’s important to proactively ask for feedback and not just assume “hey, traffic is still growing, everything must be perfect just the way it is” … TR

That was the easiest test I’ve ever taken :)
