West Seattle Crime Watch: Shots reported on Alki; no one hit

WSB Forums member HanPhotog posted this morning about hearing what sounded like four gunshots in the Alki area early today. As we replied shortly afterward, there’d been no report of anyone being shot, and the police-info maps did not indicate any confirmed gunshot calls. But tonight, we’ve heard directly from someone else who says she found shell casings:

At 3:45 am this morning, there were 6 shots fired on 56th Ave SW close to the cross street of Alki [map]. We woke up to the sound and the flash of light of the gun being fired. One person in my house heard a car speed off after the shots. We called 911 and police responded, but without sirens. We could see them patroling the neighborhood, and spoke to one officer briefly, but since no one had seen the car and there were no sounds of anyone being hit, the police could only scan the streets and alleys looking for suspicious activity. An hour after the shots, when we had started to settle down, we heard someone open our gate at the front of the yard and walk along the house and then open the gate at the back yard. We called police again but again, all they could do was survey the neighborhood. We hadn’t actually seen the person. This morning I found 6 gun casings in the street in front of my neighbor’s house and turned them in to police.

  2. Grrrr. I am so tired of the thugs at Alki on warm summer nights. Enough. Go to prison already.

  3. Sounds like the police really looked around if you were the one who found the shell casings?????

  4. We don’t have too many “shots fired” in our neighborhood, but yeah, the police “drive by” … and that’s about it!!

  5. I used to live in the CD and called 911 with “shots fired” dozens of times over the years so I’m pretty familiar with the sound.

I heard these shots but they were quick and I didn’t hear the peeling of cars, return fire or shouting that I used to hear back in the CD. I debated calling 911 but I couldn’t figure out the exact direction. I figured it was probably just some idiot shooting off a few rounds toward the water or something.
Kind of a reminder that we still live in a big city, even if we are out at the beach.

  6. Something needs to be done….only a matter of time before a stray bullet kills an innocent person. These people don’t live in the area..just come to abuse us with their attitude, garbage, loud music and guns. ALKI needs help!

  7. ‘Concerned’,
How do you know that “these people” don’t live in the area? Seems a little prejudice to me.

  8. the shots were just outside my bedroom windon (street level) and I saw the muzzle flashes. No cars peeled off, just some guy running toward the beach. The whole thing had been preceeded by a loud party. I did see the police within few minutes driving around..scary. Last night I saw more kids lurking aruond the front of the corner of 56th and Alki, pick up a big rock and throw it at about 2:10 a.m. I watched them for a few minutes and they went down the beach toward Salty’s with their dog.. just what were they doing hanging around the cars I don’t know.

  9. Concerned is right…take your Seattle Hippie goggles off real quick and look around…this is not the demographic that is mostly populated around that area, these are thug Gs that come in from High Point and White Center to strut their testosterone about and kick their ‘game’ (yo?).

It is not prejudice if it is true…it is fact.

  13. I woke up to those 6 shots, thinking to myself “damn, more gunfire”. I didn’t hear anything afterward (tire squeals, etc), so then I thought it might have been fireworks. I guess I was right to begin with.
