West Seattle’s literary hotspot
February 1, 2007 at 6:26 am | In WS beverages, WS culture/arts | 5 CommentsEvery time we see folks tapping away on their laptops at local coffee places, we wonder … student? blogger? or perhaps, author? You might have more reason to suspect the latter at Uptown Espresso in The Junction these days. First, WS radio host/author/blogger John Moe revealed he wrote a lot of “Conservatize Me” there. Now Maritime History Network blogger (and journalist/author) Joe Follansbee is planning a reading/signing there in a few weeks for his new book about the Wawona. (Personally, if we had to choose an out-of-the-house spot to write that surefire bestseller someday, we like the view at Alki Tully’s …)

On tuesday nights the home of the velvet foam is where I type away on the virtual place, Ogoglio City. So, at least one person there is neither student nor blogger, but coder.

Wrote most of my first novel at the Caffe Ladro. Part of book two was done at the Uptown.

I hear most of was written at Uptown, Coffee To a T, and C&P. With occasional stops at Alki Bakery for the good snacks despite awful music, or Alki Starbucks for the better ambiance and music, despite corporate evilness.

Uptown is the perfect place to write. I’ve been revising my Dreamweaver book there. “Velvet Foam” sounds cheesy but it’s really good. The music is good and not too loud, which helps the writing.
