I like Zippy’s burgers, but an eating contest is just crass, and draws my attention to how unhealthy burgers are capable of being.

Aw, Fred. I know this only hits part of your point, but Zippy’s does have a famous veggie burger too. – TR

Call me grinch boy if you want (my wife does it all the time), but I have a real problem with eating contests. I think they are obscene in a world where hunger is a fact of life for too many people. Eating contests also encourage extremely unhealthy dietary habits at a time when obesity and the consequences of obesity are rampant in our country. Love Zippys but this promotion gives me a serious case of indigestion.

I have a hard time finishing ONE Zippys burger. Good luck, contestants!

  • NotMe July 10, 2012 (4:27 pm)

Well, a veggie burger that is *fried* and very high in sodium. It isn’t exactly a “healthy” choice, but may be a little less UNhealthy. :-)

  • onceachef July 10, 2012 (4:41 pm)

No way I could do more than 2…I’m out!

  • foiegrasforme July 10, 2012 (5:02 pm)

does anyone seriously think anyone who eats at Zippy’s is worried about having healthly food………now if Paseos ever has a Cuban eating contest, I’m in!

  • bsmomma July 10, 2012 (5:17 pm)

Make it an onion ring eatin red pop drinking contest and I’m IN!!!!!

  • Under Achiever July 10, 2012 (5:52 pm)

Gosh Fred – you sound like you’d be a blast at parties. No social agendas at eatin’ contests….

  • Woodsman July 10, 2012 (6:03 pm)

If they have a medic standing by I’ll do it! The heart attack will be worth it!!!!!!!

  • Forest July 10, 2012 (6:12 pm)

What are the regulation size and ingredient specs of an eating contest burger?

  • MargL July 10, 2012 (7:29 pm)

Would be a bit … ironic… (is that the word I’m looking for?) but really nice, if part of the entry fee was a fundraiser for the WC Food Bank.

  • flynlo July 10, 2012 (7:49 pm)

There should be a least a 100 to 1 ratio applied to any eating contest. For each lb. consumed in the eating contest, 100 lbs. will be donated to food banks.

  • WestSide45 July 10, 2012 (8:11 pm)

    bsmomma,

No official record for onion rings, but the record for
Maui Onions is three whole onions (8.5 oz.) in one minute. Think you can approach that?

  • Morgan Resident July 10, 2012 (10:51 pm)

Zippy’s could have the entry fee be canned goods and non perishable goods? Bring food for food.

  • J July 10, 2012 (11:31 pm)

Give them a break! It’s all in good fun!

Just because I would never do it, doesn’t mean others that choose to participate should be frowned upon!

  • pam July 11, 2012 (7:29 am)

Yes J – I agree. Good golly miss molly, people always have something to complain about.

  • alkiobserver July 11, 2012 (11:25 am)

Agreed with Under Achiever, J and Pam. Some folks just can’t lighten up. If the whole world was entirely politically correct there would be no humor, let alone fun. Good luck to the contestants. Love me one of them Zippy Number 11’s with onion rings!

  • bsmomma July 11, 2012 (1:02 pm)

Whole onions??? I am no onion expert. I just know I love beer battered onion rings!!! I don’t know that I’d waste all that yumminess by shoving as many as I can in my face. :)

  • junebug July 11, 2012 (8:34 pm)

I echo Fred’s comment. I like Zippy’s on occasion but, ick to this idea.

  • dick July 14, 2012 (1:10 pm)

Shouldn’t some of you be equally concerned about the “guns n hoses” hot wing competition at the W Seattle street fair? It starts in about 20 minutes! If you hurry, you can still put a stop to it or pressure them into changing it to your liking!

  • Rahel July 19, 2012 (7:38 pm)

As a matter of fact, Zippy’s is indeed donating the entry fee to the White Center Food Bank! Though we’re not quite ‘big’ enough to offer 100:1 ratio as flynlo suggested… we’ll leave that up to the chain restaurants rather than our lil mom and pop shop. Maybe next year!

Sorry, comment time is over.
