So this is a bit embarrassing.

My daughter is in summer camp at Lincoln park and I arrived about 15 mins early to walk and show off the sights to my Sardinia/ Italian house guest. We are walking around and we see some small boys playing a game of baseball in another YMCA program and she thought it was the cutest thing ever(there is no baseball in Sardinia) so she snapped some pictures. Then as we were walking away a young teenager working with the camp came right up to is and asked if we took pictures ( right about now I realize what an idiot I was ) my guest said yes and the girl asked to see them, none had faces or anything like that just general team playing thing, so there wasn’t an issue, But what struck me is what if we were two women casing the joint, being inappropriate or god forbid anything worse. I was really proud of that young girl approaching us and making sure the kids were safe. That’s some good training! I certainly wouldn’t want someone taking pictures of my daughter. So kudos to the YMCA !

RAVE! Great example of the excellent training the Y camp staff receives! As a parent of a Y camper I’m glad you shared this story. I can likewise share that last week while my son was at Y camp (on a field trip to Lincoln Park, in fact) walked over an underground bees nest and got SEVEN bee stings! Thankfully he is not allergic to bees and the staff took great care of him. The counselor poured her water bottle into the dirt to make mud and caked it on his legs to soothe the stings. Once they were back at the program site she made a baking soda paste for him. I got a prompt call at work to let me know what happened. The most telling sign of how great the camp is that even in such pain and discomfort my son didn’t want to be picked up early! Our kids are in goods hands.
