Those who count the votes decide everything.”

TheHouseMemberWow. This peaked my curiosity. Has anyone verified if this is truly accurate or not (re: Washington State Law)?
In addition, I had no clue that Bob Barr announced his candidacy this week on the Libertarian ticket. I have to do some major research on his stances, but must say that I’m partial to him.
I had an opportunity to eat diner with him back in 1991 or 1992 in a tiny little V.A. Hall. He was a registered Republican back then, but from what I recall his values aligned with mine at the time (granted, this was in my college years).
TheHouse might have stumbled upon a new candidate…

beachdrivegirlParticipantHis press release is today @ 11am ET. No “official” word yet as to if he is running. I didnt know anything about him so I visited his page. I do like his position on the out of control spending our government has been doing. It will be a very interesting race if he does “officially” decide to run.

JenVMemberIt’s a two party system. Bob Barr doesn’t have a chance in hell.

walfredoMemberInteresting link about the groundswell of support in the libertarian movement. Remember, it was Ross Perot, that largely benefited Clinton twice with a similar limited government message. Bill never received 50% of the vote, even in his landslide reelection in 1996.
This is of course, really good news for those who would like to see a democrat in office, and/or those who would like to see the Republicans actually start to practice the limited government message that they continue to preach.
A Libertarian Pincer?

McCain’s troubles with the right are not restricted to Christianists. Ron Paul plans to make an impression at the convention and Bob Barr will carry the banner of limited government. Money Barr quote:
“In the month since we formed our exploratory committee, not a single Republican who has spoken with me to try and convince me not to seek the Libertarian nomination has disagreed with my reasons for considering a run.”
Oh, and Ron Paul’s book is Number One on the NYT list!

charlabobParticipantAh, but imagine the debate between Ron Paul and Bob Barr — they should sell tickets.

AnonymousInactiveThe lovely Bob Barr hypocrite. Wasted every ones time and money on Clinton impeachment procedures. Authored the defense of marriage act so he can be married 3 times now, but gays can be married zero. Ok for him to cheat on his wife and have one of them get an abortion, but worked tirelessly to ban any one else from doing it. Responsible for blocking medical marijuana legislation.
And on and on and on. Of course it that doesn’t do it for you, he now sleeps with satan, I mean the ACLU. I thought republicans blamed the ACLU for everything.

beachdrivegirlParticipantoh but the good news is that he will probably take some of McCain’s vote making Obama just that more likely to be our next President. :)

charlabobParticipantDifferent rules for presidential write-in ballots– they adhere to federal election rules, rather than state ones. The question is (Ken?) what are the federal laws and, since we currently have no Federal Election Commission, are they in effect?
May 25, 2008 at 5:34 am #624474
JanSParticipantspeaking of “election rules”, Charla…I saw the Bob on TV this evening…there he was sitting in all his glory, looking busy…a story about the new facilities in…Renton? Kent? I don’t remember…I was dazzled by the presence of someone I knew :)

grrParticipantI’ve writing in a vote for Oprah.
May 26, 2008 at 5:09 pm #624476
charlabobParticipantThe lovely Bob Barr is the official nominee of the Libertarian Party. He expects to be on the ballot in 48 states. I, personally, will sign any petition to get him on the ballot here. :-0
I’m hoping they revive the Conservative party as well — clearly, since McCain threw his two “controversial” preachers under the tires of the straight talk express, he isn’t a true conservative and they need an alternative. Yeah, that’s the ticket.
