theeParticipantYummy. I had two of the wheat beers and then the dunkleweizen. Man, they tasted fresh and delicious! A revelation. Also enjoyed a landjaeger (think jerky/dry sausage) with two kinds of mustard and some rye bread. Sure, it’s nothing to get Tom Douglas all antsy, but good to nibble on while sitting at the bar, nonetheless.
It’s a small joint and fills up fast, so be prepared to wait if you are unlucky enough to toil at a day job. I’d prefer if they never played Franz Ferdinand on the hi-fi again, but one cannot have everything, yes?
Most excellent,
thee

JanSParticipantcan’t wait to wrap my hands around a cold …mug…of Hacker Pschorr…I’m so glad it’s open now, even if I can’t manage to get there this week….

JanSParticipantPam…it’s 2 doors south of Spiro’s, right next to the Bohemian…:)
December 3, 2008 at 4:03 pm #648648
beachdrivegirlParticipantAre kids allowed in here? If not, do they have any loud music playing or anything? Just want to make sure that I know what I am getting myself into in case I am coming down with anything like a migraine..
December 3, 2008 at 5:24 pm #648649
villagegreenMemberthee – At least they weren’t playing the Killers. I haven’t been in yet, but did sneak a peek in the window a while back, and yes, it looked quite small. Due to the guaranteed popularity of the place I kind of wish they’d beaten the Bohemian to the space next door (which is much larger). Guess I’ll have to cut my work day short when I’m in the mood for German beer.

GenHillOneParticipantthanks for the review, thee, looking forward to trying out some real sauerkraut :)

of the bar….
as well as boot number 2 and 3… until we got cut off of boot privileges for the night.
Once the boot came out, it started a bit of a chain reaction of people demanding it.
December 3, 2008 at 9:11 pm #648655
beachdrivegirlParticipantSo, Vincent, is the boot bigger than the pints they serve?
December 3, 2008 at 9:13 pm #648656
vincentMemberA boot is 2liters, you need at least three people to order it.
There are rules for drinking from the boot, but they vary by establishment. heres a short list:
1. Das Boot can’t touch the table until it is empty.
2. Once empty, you must flick the glass with you finger before passing the beer boot to the next person. This will bring you good luck.
3. Always hold Das Boot with the toe facing out when drinking. If the toe is pointed in any other direction, you will wear the beer rather than drink it.
4. If you get splashed in the face, you must drink again.
5. The person who drank from Das Boot immediately preceding the person to empty Das Boot must purchase the next fill.
6. If you break rules 2-4, you must drink again.
7. Never clink beer boots with other glassware or slam them on the table. They may break – therefore ending the contest.

beachdrivegirlParticipantVincent, I love it!!
I am going to have to get a group of friends together soon to try it. Now I’ll just have to remember the “rules” when we get together.

JimmyGMemberOh, the boot has caused me great pain in the past at Der Bierstube on Roosevelt.

AnonymousInactiveBDG – Are you thinkin’ what I’m thinkin’? :)
December 3, 2008 at 10:45 pm #648660
theeParticipantvillagegreen: prolly couldn’t have gotten the food down had the killers been on the victrola. in the spirit of fine german-ness i offer a few german-styled suggestions for the hi-fi:
Einsturzende Neubauten — it would sound as if they were already expanding the joint
Can — would make you feel more djrunk
Neu! and faust would be tolerable, I reckon…
Certainly the gang from Oval and Mouse on Mars…
oh… and Air… I think they were German….
wow.. this is a really dumb post… sorry!
December 3, 2008 at 10:46 pm #648661
BayouMemberThat boot comes with a lot of rules! Think I’ll have the dunkleweizen instead.

JenVMemberDecember 4, 2008 at 12:45 am #648663
villagegreenMemberThee – those are some stellar German music picks. Haven’t heard Einsturzende Neubauten since I was in college. Listening to Neu! 75 or Tago Mago while drinking in a public bar would be totally surreal (in the best way). After consuming a boot I might not even protest if they slipped on some Scorpions.
