Thanks!

swimcatMemberI’ve been to Maui twice, and loved this place: Hale Pau Hana in Kihei. They are condos (we stayed in the smaller building, not the tower), so you can go to Safeway and buy a ton of food and cook if you want since they have full kitchens (and BBQs outside on the grass lawn). Some of the condos have been redone, so look at the pictures too there are different styles to chose. This place is right on the beach in Kihei, and I just saw in the Seattle Times yesterday that beaches 1,2 and 3 were rated as some of the best in Maui. And they are- we traveled all around that island snorkeling and trying to surf, and the best beach was right in our backyard. Bonus is that it is quite private for being a public beach, since condos line it and public access is a ways down so it feels like a private beach for the condos.
I’ve stayed at fancy resorts and don’t like being captive to their restaurants, etc.. If that is your style then the Hale Pau Hana wouldn’t be the best place. But if you want to save money on food, and want a laid back atmosphere, this is the place to go.
Have fun planning your trip!!!

danielleSMemberWe just got married last August and went to Maui for our honeymoon and we stayed at the Best Western Oceanfront Inn in Kihei. It was great. A hundred bucks or so per night, tempurpedic beds, and it was located right on Kaovacaapo beach, (I may have butchered that spelling) which is one of the best in Maui. This hotel was just what we wanted. It is located between two expesive resorts so you have great restaurant options too! But there was no pool or kitchen, so if you are looking for those things, try the Maui Vista. Also around a hundred bucks a night and in Kihei. It’s across the street from Charlie Young beach, which is still a good location.
On a side note, I have to recommend a place to eat. PLEASE treat yourselves to Mama’s Fish House. It’s about a 20 minute drive from Kihei, but it is the most amazing place. The food is just incredible, and there is no more romantic setting on earth! It’s a little spendy but we had to go twice while we were there because…well, we just had to. Ok, one more recommendation!: Tuesday night at Tommy Bahamas in Walea, Jamie Lawrence sings. A trip to Maui would not be complete without going at 6, getting a good table and a great drink, (their Key Lime martini is delicious!)and listening to this Maui native sing. He is just sublime. Google him for a preview!
Congrats and good luck!
