I recently inherited a shotgun and a hunting rifle and am wondering where those in West Seattle with weapons go to safely shoot? Any ranges that are easy to get to? Any wide open country backwoods worth a long drive that are safe?

Note that before anyone jumps to conclusions I’m a responsible gun owner, and due to my recent service in the Army practice considerable weapons safety techniques. However, this is my first time owning guns since I’ve moved to Seattle so I’m not sure where folks go to shoot (not hunt).

    Suggestions welcome! Thanks!

If you just google “seattle shooting ranges” there are some local ranges that come up. I personally drive up to the mountains, usually an old rock quarry, when I go shooting. Good luck.

I’ve shot at Champions, but pistol only; I don’t think they have rifle/shotgun though I could be wrong.

For rifles there’s an outdoor place out route 2 that I go to, but I’m not sure how to get there–I go with a friend who usually drives.

Kenmore has a range I’ve shot trap at a number of times. I know that they have instructors there. I think it is called the Kenmore Rifle Club? Can’t remember for sure, but it’ll come up on a google search.

There is also another club out south/SE of Issaquah which had a trap range as well, but I don’t know about instruction. And I don’t remember the name of that one either.

Renton Fish and Game for skeet and trap. You don’t have to join the club in order to shoot there. Of course it’s cheaper if you do.

I agree with J that the Renton Fish and Game and/or Seattle Skeet and Trap Club would be your best bet.

Hello Creighton, and others asking about locations for the safe firing of handguns, rifles, and shotguns.. bow & arrow too for that matter. The Seattle Police Athletic Association is located in Tukwila, just south of Boeing Field. This is the site that SPD, as well as several other Law Enforcement agencies train and qualify with their duty weapons. S.P.A.A. also accepts civilian membership. Visit our web page at http://www.spaarange.com for more info. This site is within minutes of West Seattle, offers several ranges for civilian use, and is affordable for shooting enthusiasts. We also have a retail store.. (for our accepted membership.)

Also by the SPD range is a great little food place called Best Cafe. Killer burgers.

How do you become a member of the SPAAR? You have to be a member just to access their website.

I got a peek at the SPAAR site before they locked it back up. Very nice and darn cool that it is so close.

Got the following off of Yelp.

    SPAAR

    11030 E Marginal Way S

    Tukwila, WA 98168

    (206) 762-2900

If you call, get back to us here with the info you get, eh?

And, btw, Buzzy – you are too cool. You helped me out at the desk a few years ago!

They must have opened the site back up because it was viewable today. I plan on getting my membership very soon.

Note that the phone number on #11 is incorrect. I just looked at the website.

684-7470 is the correct number off the SPAAR site.

    Be safe!
