velo_nutParticipantOwners of cats who are off leash should be ticketed. Why arent they right now?

austinMemberYou can’t make up your own laws and expect them to be enforced.

CarsonParticipantFind all the incidents of cats biting people off leash and you might have a point. Until then, save the bandwith…

SmittyParticipantI’ll sign the petition – you get it started!
If dog poop was the size of a thimble AND routinely buried I would probably be more kind to their selfish owners! Dog poopie sucks (and stinks) especially when it ends up in MY yard!
Full disclosure – dog lover/cat hater.

charlabobParticipantI’m owned by three cats and I’m hardly ever on a leash. Even the cats know better than to try that.

MargLMemberAnd it’s charlabob for the win! ;-)

EscondidoMemberExercising control over a cat is like nailing jello to a wall.

anonymeParticipantVelo, I have two cats and I happen to agree with you. It’s safer for the cats to be indoors (not to mention the songbirds) and more respectful to neighbors, who may not appreciate unearthing kittie’s little buried treasures while gardening.

JiggersMemberTalk about no control. I just got back from Lincoln Park and counted 5 dogs without their leashes on this morning. I was approached by a little mutt who insisted on barking at me walking past. I just wanted to drop kick that little mofo. I casually told the woman, the owner, that this is an on-leash dog park. She just looked to the sky and rolled her eyes. Unreal.

KBearParticipantAnyone who gives a damn about being a good neighbor or their cat’s safety would not let it roam the neighborhood.

dhgParticipantTHere are no safe places for cats in this world. One recent morning I saw a coyote in our backyard. Looking for treats no doubt, perhaps a sleepy kitty. (Our cat is on a leash when she goes out)

jwwsParticipantIt’s those darn off leash pot bellied pigs that really bother me!

nuniMemberOh man I LOVE setting my dog loose when our neighbor’s cat is in our yard! The cat will actually climb our fence to get away from her haha.

CarsonParticipantWe must have lots of Raccoons or a Coyote around here, I see lots of missing cat posters, so I am guessing the cat off the leash problem is more self-correcting than the dog off the leash problem.

mpentoParticipantA couple observations from my living with my neighbors cats. If I were to plant some vegetables and stuff (and I would like to) I would need to setup some sort of enclosure so that they don’t do their business there. I guess some wildlife have the same preference for digging in beds but its not a matter of one or the other but being a used spot seems to encourage others. Currently my roses have to fight with mildew and black spot. The cats use that bed and the corner plants are usually the worst I presume because they are the preferred spot for marking. My garden is currently a no bird zone except for blujays and crows because there are a couple of active hunters in the area. Also, and this is the most frustrating, my car is black and cleans up really nice but then the local cats like to sun themselves on my car and leave their muddy prints all over!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr. So while maybe they are not a threat to life and limb consider that your cat roaming around MY garden is a nuisance. Also in the interest of equality people walking their dogs sometimes pickup the poo but seem to think that its OK to let the dog pee where ever they want. I’m often tempted to follow them home and pee in their garden and see what they think of that! Welcome to the neighborhood. Just keep your pets, kids and cars off my lawn! Walt Kowalski is the MAN!

jwwsParticipantmpento,
There are a lot of veggies that do well in pots (tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, peppers..) if you really want to grow them and keep the vermin away from them. Alternatively I have had success discouraging my neighbor’s cats from using my garden as a litter box by treating the area with cayenne pepper/habanero tabasco sauce – they still pass through but don’t loiter. As to where dogs pee, well how are you gonna stop that/clean it up? If they are on leash and their owner picks up the poop that’s good enough for me – provided they are not on one of those 26 ft retractable leashes and invading your inner yard to pee. Makes me wonder why so many people are planting veggies in their parking strips without some sort of doggie barrier- ICK

spanaMemberJust yesterday I saw a cat tethered to its porch near Alki. It was awesome.
That said, I let my cats roam free and the smart one regularly goes on murdering sprees. If your pet mice are living in the abandoned house next to mine, they are screwed.
