AnonymousInactiveRich, it seems the argument has now turned to defining the term, rather than actually acting on it.
*Definitions Vary Of Obama “Bipartisanship”*

JoBParticipantHMC Rich…
when you say that republicans won’t benefit from what you are calling a spending luau.. you are talking about big business aren’t you?
because citizens will benefit.. even if they are republicans.

JanSParticipantmy problem with what some are arguing about Obama not being bi-partisan, like he “promised”. They want their way, not a bi-partisan meeting of the minds. They will still want it “their way or the highway”. What did they think? That he would just hand over the financial controls over to them and let them do what they’ve done in the past? I don’t think so…but they do. Cynical? Yeah, you betcha…
They (the repubs) have now gotten religion financially, and know better how to fix things? Really? REALLY? SERIOUSLY? Maybe I’m just naive that I don’t believe that.
Pres. Obama hasn’t been president for a month yet, and already some repubs are saying he’s a failure…let’s get real here..John McCain could have done better? People actually believe that? This man who admitted to not having any economic sense could fix this better?
Our economy, our country is about to tank so low that it will take years and years to recover, no matter who’s in charge…the badmouthing, the game playing, the “whoa, let’s take our time with this” has got to stop. If they (I’m including both dems and repubs here) don’t stop arguing about the pissy little things (like getting their way ala Opie), and don’t start cooperating with each other, we are definitely doomed. Yep..cynical-I-am…the newest Seuss character…

JanSParticipantand…as far as I’m concerned, everything would be a bit easier if Harry Reid took an earlier retirement, and Nancy Pelosi decided to take up gardening – as soon as possible…yes, I’m a dem, but someone needs to put these two people in their place. Just MHO….

HMC RichParticipantJT – Interesting article.
JoB – I was just kidding around. Big Business can take a hike (the ones that ran their companies wrong and screwed us). Small businesses employ two thirds of Americans. They’re the ones who need a break.
JanS – Oh well, we disagree on a few points but that’s OK. Lets see how this administration does. I love Dr. Suess.
What do we see
a Pelosi and Reid
They think they know
exactly what we need
Red House Blue House
Republicans now a Mouse
White House was Red House
Last guy was a louse
Blue White House Now
Americans say WOW
Obama lead the way
for Democrats today.
Partisan Fartisan
It all stinks
wouldn’t you say
Anyway, I wish I could have made it to the get together but Sundays are not a good social day. Employment and Childcare get in the way. Hope you all had a good time.

JanSParticipanthehehe…HMC…you even made the last paragraph rhyme, and probably didn’t mean to. :)
I think that we probably agree on more than we disagree…like perhaps Pelosi and Reid. I suppose I get a little tired of the indignant stands of the likes of Lindsay Graham, John McCain (yeah, there’s a reason he didn’t win), and others who feel that the dems are going to run this country into the ground, and don’t realize that the hole was started quite some time ago. They scream about bi-partisanship, yet we all know if the tables were reversed they would no more be bi-partisan than the man in the moon. Right now they think that bi-partisan means handing the reins over to them. Anything less and they’re against it.
We will have to plan the next outing for another day/evening of the week. I take it both you and your spouse are employeed and split the childcare. We try to do these things in a child friendly place…hope to meet sometime :)

JoBParticipantI have a question…
How is it possible to hold Obama responsible for the current lack of bipartisanship?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bipartisan
i like the webster definition better because it highlight what i believe to be the most important point… cooperation.
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bipartisan
I am not surprised that republicans aren’t good at this bipartisan stuff… they have exercised total power for a long time…
but blaming President Obama for their unwillingness to even recognize that we are in the midst of a national crisis that would require them to attempt cooperation is shifting blame where it isn’t due.
The only thing Obama could do is offer them the opportunity to compromise.. and to pressure Pelosi and Reid to compromise.. and hope that the republican party would play along.
The proof that he tried to do so rests in final composition of the stimulus bill…
and yet.. only 3 republicans saw fit to vote for the bill.
You can lead horse to water but you can’t make them drink.
Right now the republican party doesn’t want to come to the table.. and until their constituents and the democratic party forces them to do so.. they won’t…
After all, this tactic worked well for them. They gutted the stimulus bill without giving anything in return… and got bragging rights if the bill fails…
from a power standpoint.. it’s a win win for them.
It may even be a win if the stimulus bill actually works… they have already set their strategy … from the mouths of Limbaugh and Rove… and Cheney… the economy will turn around no matter what we do…
Now there’s a group you can believe…
When political parties play at power instead of governing responsibly… we are the losers.
if you ever questioned that.. all you have to do is open the latest statements from your retirement accounts … or sweat out the layoffs at your company hoping you won’t get one of the pink slips this time… or check out the equity in your house.. or….
because this time it is that bad…
Republicans should put pressure on their representatives to come to the table…
and democrats should put pressure on their representatives to stop compromising with republicans if they won’t come to the table and become part of the process.
Using the big bad republicans as an excuse won’t cut it any more…
it’s way past time to stop the blame game and start looking for substance….
