oddrealityParticipantMy husband found a wallet night before last, late, as he was driving home from the store.Saw it in the headlights on the street. He asked at the house it was in front of to see if it belonged there..no and they did not know the name.Yesterday morning tried to take it to the address in the wallet but no answer at the door and it appeared to him as if no one had been there for a few days so he did not just leave it but left a note asking them to call.No call. Tried to take it to the police station as the non emergency number suggested we do…no one there [we will try again this after noon] What the heck do we do with this wallet? We do not want to have it in our possession any longer!!Just want to get it back to its owner.
Should I put the name here in case someone knows this person?
Right now I feel like taking it back where it was found and leaving it! So frustrating![won’t do that but still..]
HELP

celeste17ParticipantI would put it in an envelope and with the name on the front and take it to the police station and if no one is there leave it in a mail box. Be sure to not seal the envelope and mark on the envelope that it is an wallet and that it was found at such and such streets (cross streets). You might even put your last name on the package. This way they don’t think its a suspicous package. I know at the courthouse we have specific rules about mail and that the more information there is the better.

oddrealityParticipantThank you Celeste17, that is just what we will do!!
We are going to go there in a few minutes.
After we do it I will post the name so if he sees this he will know where to go find his wallet!!

kmweinerMemberAs someone who lost a wallet last week and had it returned, I want to commend you for your effort. I would put the person’s name here.
October 11, 2011 at 8:54 pm #736912
SueParticipantYou could try searching online for a phone number since you apparently have a name and address. I did that when I got a check delivered to my home for someone who moved several years ago – found them online, called, and was able to give it to them. It did take a week though for them to get back to me as they were out of the country, so you may hear from them yet from your note.

oddrealityParticipantSue,We did search to see if a phone number would come up but nothing at all. So we can’t call them.
Kmweiner, we may yet hear from them but really it feels weird having someones wallet here..We will be taking it to the police station as soon as my husband is ready to go..he is sloooooow..ha
I’ll put the name here since it is headed to the police precinct down by Homedepot. If anyone does know this person please let them know it is there.[unless there is some reason we can’t leave it there but if so I’ll let you know!]
Arron Hamby is the name. Ring any bells??
October 11, 2011 at 9:10 pm #736914
KimberleyParticipantI just searched “Aaron Hamby” and found a facebook profile for one who lives in and is from Seattle and sent him a message letting him know about his wallet and directing him to this thread. That may help.

LindseyParticipantIf there’s a bank card inside, you might turn it into the bank on the card. That’s how I once got my wallet back, not a penny missing. Thank you, mystery lady who took a cab after me in 2009.
October 11, 2011 at 11:02 pm #736916
oddrealityParticipantKimberly, I saw that too but looked like he did not use it lately..maybe he will get the message!!
Lindsey, that is another good idea because as it turned out we could not leave it at the police precinct.ARGH…the door was locked and no place to leave it at all.No box no nothing.A woman did come to the door to tell us the duty officer was not there but would be in a little bit [she could not take it] so we went to the store and then called the number she gave us and no answer so he still was not there..40 minutes later…
We came back home. So the wallet still resides with us and clearly even if we could leave it at the police precinct he would never be able to retrieve it because no one is ever there!!!I had the same problem a couple years ago with another found object..I could never find anyone there to leave it with. They really need to staff that place better,at least a few regular hours so people know when they might actually find someone there..
Maybe we will try the bank idea. We will wait till tomorrow in case he sees this thread.
Thank you for all the great ideas.

MBParticipantWow, so great to see multiple people helping to return this wallet! Makes me smile ;) I also searched him and it appears he is from West Seattle so I doubled up and sent him another message that his wallet is looking for him. We also appeared to have a friend in common, so I messaged that person as well. Hope you are able to get in contact with him soon! Not sure if you are on Facebook, but if you are, you could always send him a message directly to make it easier…

oddrealityParticipantMB, thank you for messaging the mutual friend. I do hope some of this works.
Cannot believe he is not frantically looking for his wallet! I would be.
October 12, 2011 at 3:36 pm #736919
Seaboy206MemberThanks MB for the message. Oddreality, if you could give me a call around 7ish or so today that would be great. I’m very appreciative that you would put this much effort in trying to get my wallet back to me. My number is 2065889953 and i get off work around 630 so we could possibly meet up tonight? Thanks alot.

MBParticipantYay,looks like it will be a happy ending! Im sure he was frantically looking, but sometimes its hard to know where to look ;) As much as technology annoys me at times, it can also be a beautiful thing! This story has made my week and restored at least a little bit of my faith in the people around me!
October 12, 2011 at 7:54 pm #736921
oddrealityParticipantYAY is right!!
So glad to hear from you Aaron!!We will call you around 7 and be happy to meet to return your wallet.
BIG thanks to all who helped and to you MB for figuring out something that actually worked.
Thanks to WSB for having a place for us to accomplish this sort of thing! What did we do prior to the internet??I’ve already forgotten.:)

miwsParticipantI just thought of a new WSB Forum Section; West Seattle Rawks!
It would be an Archive type section that threads such as this could be put into.
That way, whenever someone is feeling a bit down, or having a totally rotten day, or just down on people in general, they could visit that section and be reminded that there are still good people out there!

oddrealityParticipantAaron has his wallet back!!!
We should all have our phone numbers in our wallets just in case! I put mine in my wallet .This has been a lesson learned for me too!
Thanks again WSB for this venue!!

GAnativeParticipantGlad Aaron got his wallet back!
Another suggestion for future wallet finds is if there is a library card; call the library.
Several years ago our Girl Scout troop stopped at a pumpkin patch in Marysville on the way back to WS and in all the confusion our first aid backpack (containing my wallet and phone) was left behind. I still had a GA driver’s license but had a King County Library card; the pumpkin patch called the library and the library called my house to let me know where to find the bag.
