WSBKeymasterAssuming you’re the same Robert who tweeted it. I’m trying to find a little context before posting it to the home page … the consultant who worked on it per the end slate worked on seismic studies for the project, but that’s all I’ve found so far.

MargLMemberThose Parsons Brinckerhoff folks do some interesting work – http://www.pbprojectviz.com/
They did the other tunnel vs. no tunnel 3D visualizations for WSDOT, too.

WSBKeymasterFound the context. Posted today on the “WSDOT Blog” by the guy heading up the Viaduct project. No time stamp (though I can probably find one in Google Blogsearch) but I can tell you that when I looked at the clip a few minutes after Robert tweeted it, it only had two views.

(added just because I am nutty about the details) Google Blogsearch says it was posted two hours ago. Guess nobody saw it till Robert ;)

LindseyParticipantMy nightmares will be in much clearer detail after watching that. :(

JanSParticipantand someone wanted to put a tunnel in that ground under the viaduct?

miwsParticipantI haven’t watched the vid yet. Have dial-up, so don’t readily click on them, due to download time.
Although, did see a quick clip of it on the TV News.
Pretty scary!

rockhillsMemberUmmm… I’ve been very confident for a very long time that I did not want to be on or under the viaduct in an earthquake of any magnitude (the curse of a morbid imagination.) Now I’ll have to watch the dang video. Thanks a lot.

rockhillsMemberWatched it. Yep, thanks a lot.

Silent_WarriorMemberI want a simulation video of what happend to the deep bore tunnel next to the sea wall that gave way…
October 27, 2009 at 3:31 pm #680986
austinMemberIsn’t the tunnel supposed to be under the city, further n/e, not under where the existing viaduct is now directly adjacent to the sea wall? From what I remember one of the advantages to deep bore is that it’s significantly more stable in the event of seismic impact than an elevated road or cut and cover tunnel. Also isn’t part of this project to upgrade the sea wall? I can’t remember, and it’s a PITA to sift through everyone on the internet’s opinion on the tunnel before finding any actual information on the tunnel.

WSBKeymasterOK, the first minute or so of that was pretty good.

miwsParticipantJan, there were at least a couple of points in that vid, that I was expecting to hear a falsetto “Ohhhhhhhhh Noooooooo!!” ;-)
