Just compassion in general. Think about how much energy goes into the short, thoughtless comments just here in this one forum? If you took this energy and put it into your community or did some good, imagine what would come out of that!!

Just for a moment think about how people must HURT when they read your comments. These are people’s dreams folks not something to just pass the time.

Thank goodness most of the places you ‘comment’ on are established businesses who can take, in a small part, some negativity. These business owners have families & mortgages and you think you have the authority to just trash them.

Corrective comments yes! Low, unintelligent, shallowness no.

bark, real life is not all happiness, agreement, sweetness and light. And nothing I post here on WSB isn’t word for word what I would say to a person face to face, I’m not one to hide behind my keyboard.

My comments didn’t slam a business, but explained my rationale for not voting for Blayne as fan favorite.

My agreement with Erik didn’t in any way attempt to make me superior to anyone else, you made a huge leap of deduction.

JimmyG as a counterbalance life is also not thoughtless, shallow comments that are counter-productive and passive-aggressive. I wonder how many outraged ‘commenters’ on this blog have actually taken the time to contact any of the businesses, politicians, communities et al they so easily trash? It’s easy to be an armchair critic but until you walk in the shoes of others, then nothing gives you the right to behave in such a small-minded manner. You should be ashamed.

some of the people you are barking about do a great deal in their community and are first in line to help out when someone needs a helping hand… they just don’t advertise it much here.

and yes.. many of them, including me, have worked that other side of the counter..

or even more fun … as a cocktail waitress in a crappy low necked arse revealing costume that must have begged to be touched.. because it sure was in places you wouldn’t have thought that interesting… there sure are a lot of guys interested in “fashion”. It’s a good thing the music was generally too loud to hear what they were saying… and you don’t want to know what we ladies said about them at the cocktail station.

some of us have even cleaned those toilets:)

Sometimes you do a lot to support your passion…

I think Blayne was probably edited to reveal what they thought his story was.. rube kid from the NW trying to make it in the big city and not getting the in jokes…

but he did last quite a while.. what he put out was at least interesting… he needs to learn context and execution… and that will take time.

as for what does and doesn’t float your boat… i was recently the lone dissenter in a food tasting … and i still believe i was right and they were wrong:)

it’s like starbucks.. you either love it or you think they burn their beans…

it’s America.. we get to express an opinion…

at least.. we do this year. who knows next:(

bark, I am sorry if I offended you somehow by not worshipping at the altar of Blayne and Hotwire coffee. As I stated, I was a barista for years, and have a low tolerance for poor customer service. As I said, I would give them one more chance- and they lost my business forever. at least I gave them one more chance- I urge anyone to do the same. I am guessing by the comments here I am not the only one to be treated poorly at Hotwire- and sorry, I just don’t think their coffee is good enough to warrant being treated poorly. And I know I said I wouldn’t elaborate- but hearing Blayne, the other barista and the customer in front of me talking about her UTI at 8:30 in the morning was just a bit much for me – all this while being made to wait for the end of said discussion before even being acknowledged.

That is all I am going to say on it. You can go ahead and make your huge assumptions about everyone who doesn’t agree with you if that makes you sleep better at night.

Oh, and for what its worth- I didn’t even watch Project Runway. I think I watched once this season to see what the hype was- I hate reality TV (aside from Top Chef) So I have no opinion on his designs or him as a reality tv “star”

i confess.. i am a top chef junkie.. and Top design.. and desgin star.. and project runway and Americ’as next top model…

i know.. i have just burst a few bubbles regarding my level head.. but i am always interested in people following their passions.. and what that can produce…

i watch for the art..

but can’t resist the drama either:)

I think it’s interesting that this post was set-up for fan favorite, Blayne and when those of us posted that we didn’t agree and that we didn’t find Hotwire great, some of you argued. It’s just opinions, people. Also, I worked in service positions for years. There are several coffee shops in West Seattle where I feel the baristas take pride in their work, serve great coffee, and do not make me feel like I’m back in high school. I think Ladro, C&P, and Uptown fit the bill.

I used to love PR but feel this year is a little off. Tim, I think is too busy with his other projects and the show just feels a little played out. That said, I still watch it and still feel that Blayne has a lot of growing up to do in all areas. Honestly, I was surprised he lasted that long.

I’m not saying he should give up his dream, but as a once starving artist myself, you make choices. Not thinking Blayne is the greatest has nothing to do with being compassionate.

I too am a reality junkie, minus american idol and fear factor,etc. Design Star bums me out though because I thought Will was the CLEAR winner last year. Too much focus on TV personality. Top Design is pretty great!

well..as a Hotwire Addict, and one who tends to ‘hang out’, I’ve seen it all there. I’ve seen THE rudest ‘customers’ come in..bark our their orders while talking on their cell phones, NO ‘please’ or ‘thank you’, no tip, no nothing.

I’ve seen Blayne and the others be incredible freindly and engaging, and I’ve seen people who just are having a bad day (usually I see this after hanging for 30 minutes and watching them get treated like crap).

I’m in the ‘service’ industry as well..the customer is always right, even when they’re wrong :) It’s still no excuse for being rude.

I’ve seen the change in Blayne. My opinion is that the experience matured and enlightened him as to what the fashion world is really like. I think he’ll continue to grow and explore and take risks, and I applaud him for the guts to go on national TV and expose himself. Tan and all :)

Well, since this is a vote for Blayne on PR, not barista of the year, I still voted for him as my fan favorite. In all honesty, I don’t go to Hotwire any more often than other coffee shops – it’s usually based on what errand I have nearby. God knows the show is edited for exaggeration, but I liked Blayne’s freshness and found him endearing. I also pay a lot of attention to Tim Gunn as an “insider” and he seemed to genuinely like Blayne.

Whats interesting to me is that Blayne has already started to have some big breaks besides Project Runway. :) That is what I find exciting! And yes I for one will go and vote the 40 times for him for the fan favorite just b/c he is from West SEattle.

this all started so I could put a link up to vote for blayne. that’s all. if you don’t like him, fine. if you do, vote. it has NOTHING to do with hotwire. it was not meant to be a thread to criticize anyone. it was simply a link that you could follow if you desired. plain and simple. take your blayne/hotwire/whatever complaints elsewhere. thanks.

The exposure from this show is good for most of those who enter.. and the competition to get on it pretty fierce…

regardless of whether he won…. or whether he wins fan favorite.. i suspect he will do very well.

another confession.. i don’t drink coffee.. so i am afraid i have only been to the coffee shops if one of you asks me to meet them there.

so far, hotwire hasn’t been on that list.. so i have never had the pleasure of meeting blayne. if i do, i will tell him that i applaud his passion and willingness to put it all out there and i hope exciting career opportunities come his way because of it.

as for Hotwire.. i am sure sooner or later someone will ask me to meet them there and i can see for myself..

if they have good chai or hot chocolate.. i’m in.

I think it’s pretty unfair to throw the book at bark on this one, honestly. He makes a great point, I think. I won’t get started on the crap people are forced to take in the customer service world, but suffice it to say that if you don’t like Blayne’s coffee, you can go somewhere else. Coffee is a matter of personal opinion (some of us actually like our snarky barista’s!) whether we’re talking about the service or the coffee. Be glad you live in Seattle where the options are endless even within a block of that cafe.

Being able to vote with our feet is the reason most service people do their best to keep a good attitude and a smile on their face… no matter how rude the customer..

and the reason most shops try to put out a product that suits their customer’s needs.

Thank you for the kind responses to some of the less-than-insightful posts, it gives me faith in humanity.

Just remember, these are the same people who put in hours of volunteer time for Sidewalk Cinema and the West Seattle Art Walk. I believe all the staff at Hotwire including Blayne take the time to provide the community with these events to help strengthen WS.

It’s important to take a moment and imagine yourself walking in another’s shoes. Compassion is a lost art.

I’ve had several good experiences at Hotwire and a couple not-so-hot, as far as the baristas go. And none of them was Blayne (unless a long time ago). I think they just need to be reminded to be pleasant to everyone and a little less self-absorbed. (I swear I am always nice to them, bark.)

I voted for Blayne, just out of WS loyalty.
