Can someone explain to me why there are so many Volvos in West Seattle? I know the entire Western Washington region loves Subarus. I get that. But it seems to me that if you drill down into just the Puget Sound, then drill down into Seattle proper, then drill down once again to West Seattle, you see a LOT of Volvos in our little hood. Do we crave European styling and engineering, but shun the Bellevue-ish mainstream luxury brands like Mercedes and BMW? Tell me because I need to know!

I would broaden your hypothesis to the “west side” of Seattle, not just West Seattle. I see Volvos all up and down the Hwy-99 corridor. All over Ballard, Shoreline, etc. Perhaps the Swedish influence is stronger in this part of the region?

I don’t know why, but I do know I was thisclose to being rear-ended by one last night on Gatewood hill…driver was smoking and texting. Older blue Volvo. Just because you drive a safe car doesn’t mean you can drive it unsafely, friend!

Interesting observation Curate. I’ll have to keep my eyes open in Magnolia and that area.

I haven’t noticed the Volvos. I was amused to note one day at the Admiral library that, of the six cars parked, three were Subarus. Two were Nissans. Seems like I’ve seen either quite a few Nissans lately, or there are a few doing a lot of running around.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but my husband drives Volvos because he loves them. He used to be a Volvo mechanic. (I commute 70 miles every day, so I drive a Prius.)
