charlabobParticipantIt’s always good to hear from you House, You contribute so much to the intellectual tenor of these forums.

TheHouseMemberAnd Charla, you exemplify intelligent thought. So much so that it takes two of you to get across your great political theory.
Give me frickin’ break, Scotty.

JoBParticipanttheHouse..
instead of focusing on the entertainment value..
perhaps you could use this as an opportunity to learn something about one of the many cultures that share this space we call America…
Eudora Smith has written an excellent article for the May 5 issue of the Nation talking about Reverend Wright and the black church…
http://mobile.thenation.com/docmobile.mhtml?i=20080505&s=smith
Is it just possible that if you peeked behind the scenes you might find there is more here than you thought?
Like when you peeked behind the scenes at the West Seattle Food Bank and discovered it wasn’t just the big handout you thought… but a place to help people turn their lives around?
go on… read something challenging.. it’s good for you:)

JanSParticipantumm…House…is that all you know how to do? fling unneeded insults at people? you certainly don’t contribute much of anything constructive that stays on topic…you laugh, you sneer, you make nasty comments, and you call names…intellectual? I don’t think so…
May 1, 2008 at 4:29 pm #623336
JoBParticipantJanS..
give theHouse a break.
Things look different when you live under a bridge…
the poor man can’t help who he is..
and may need a little help to change what he is:)

JenVMemberJanS, he IS a repug. The most unneccessarily smug and nasty people I know fall under that category.

JoBParticipantI just spent a good hour looking for reactions in the black press to the Senator Obama/Wright controversy… and as far as I can tell.. the black press itself is silent.
I did find a few articles in the mainstream press…
http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/bal-md.churches01may01,0,591077.story?page=1
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5g1Qr-L0EeMgyfelWgKLbSVBZlZdwD90D8O4OA
I found articles on racism…
http://www.suntimes.com/news/brown/922710,CST-NWS-brown30.article
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004326428_raceyoung04m.html
I found political analysis by both a Canadian pundit and USNews and World Report
http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen/news/opinion/story.html?id=807fbcb0-409b-4bbb-8f91-2ed9d998c5e6
http://www.usnews.com/articles/opinion/mzuckerman/2008/05/02/reverend-wrights-wrongs.html
I found an article calling this the greatest ever political coup… for Obama
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/blake-fleetwood/rev-wright-falls-on-his-s_b_99362.html
and lastly.. this article about the 10 ten political gaffes in the primaries…
http://blog.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2008/05/friday_line_the_controgaffes_o.html
What I didn’t find is interesting to me … political spin from the campaigns aside.. I didn’t find anything current from the black press.. even in sources that had previously condemned Senator Obama…
And I didn’t find consensus… on what kind of issue this is for Senator Obama.. race or ethics.. though the Republican press is coming down heavily on ethics… they haven’t yet called him a liar.. but are getting close.
Strangely, O’Rielly has come down on Reverend Wright for sabotaging Senator Obama’s political career… and applauded Obama’s reaction … or perhaps not so strangely given the republican choice to focus publicly on hypocrisy.
One thing is clear from my morning’s probe.. America really doesn’t know what to make of this…
May 3, 2008 at 2:14 am #623339
JoBParticipanti posted the above 8hours ago.. but for some reason it didn’t pop up… and i am sure that some of you will find the links interesting..
so i am giving it another go.

beachdrivegirlParticipantThe thing that is clear to me is that America wants to move on because we have other things to worry about…
And on a side note I really liked Moores comments in response to wright he mentioned that since he is Catholic if he had gotten up and walked out of church everytime a priest said something he didnt agree with he wouldnt look how he does now because of all of the exercise.. sure made a good point.
May 3, 2008 at 5:01 pm #623341
TheHouseMemberI think you all know that I could respond to your comments of Hilary vs Obama vs Rev Wright vs all of the Democratic parties issues. The bottom line for me is that they are all incorrect and don’t do a damn thing to strengthen the United States or strengthen my position as an individual. Both Hillary and Obama have proven that they have provided false statements during this campaign. Since I disagree with their political ideology, I don’t have anything to contribute towards either side. I much rather sit on the sideline and see you guys debate which one of these pathetic candidates is actually better. If you put a gun to my head and asked me to choose one of them, I would probably select Clinton. THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT I AM A CLINTON SUPPORTER!
Rev Wright is an insane man. I lived i the South for 20 years and grew up with people that went to black churches. His comments have nothing to do with “understanding” black churches. Black churches can quite honestly be one of the most uplifting, fun and joyous churches that are out there. They definitely do not bore you to sleep because they are jovial.
Rev Wright spewed hatred against the United States equal to what the KKK spews towards blacks. Bottom line is that this guy is bigger nut job than our local nut at Mars Hill.
What else would you like for me to expound on?
May 3, 2008 at 5:06 pm #623342
JanSParticipantHouse…whatever our differences in political ideologies(sp.?), I agree that Rev. Wright doesn’t speak for a lot of black churches…and you’ll find that this will come out more and more. Going to a black church in the south can be a wonderful thing..
May 4, 2008 at 5:21 am #623343
JoBParticipantTheHouse…
John McCain on the other hand has told the truth and nothing but the truth… he he he he he…
it bet he had his fingers crossed:)
May 4, 2008 at 5:22 am #623344
JoBParticipantBeachdrivegirl..
don’t be lulled into thinking the America wants to move on…
there is a political party that is not the least bit interested in moving on on this one.. and if they do.. you can bet it will be back soon.
there was actually good political commentary buried in those links…
too bad you didn’t bother reading them.

JanSParticipantMay 4, 2008 at 10:53 pm #623346
beachdrivegirlParticipantI hate to break it to you but Wright isn’t running for any political office..
May 5, 2008 at 8:16 pm #623347
JoBParticipantbeachdrivegirl…
you are right that Wright is not running for any political office… at least not right now:)
but imagine him brought to you by the same guys who did the real swiftboating…
his not running for office doesn’t mean we have heard the last of him..
heck.. he was the headline on Bill Moyer’s show this weekend.
