LucyMemberDoes anyone know how to get a stop sign or traffic light installation request to the city?

ALSParticipantI don’t know, but I would love to see the traffic light on Delridge and Genessee changed to a sensor light instead of a timed one! All too often I have sat on Genessee for-e-ver waiting to turn left onto Delridge, while zero cars were actually coming down Delridge. I admit, I have decided to just run it on occasion!

Start here and you can find out more than you want to know about how Seattle makes decisions about traffic signals. I couldn’t find specific links to your questions, but it’s all in here — you do have to get through paragraphs about algorithms and weighting, but it’s worth it — and there are email addresses for questions and concerns.
We’ve tried to get a signal at the corner of Admiral and 47th (the site of the fatal pedestrian accident two years ago) and the list of excuses was admirable. Seems that putting a signal there would screw up traffic as far away as Omaha — well, almost. They do have tons of flashing yellow lights, flags to carry across the street for drivers who can’t see moving human beings, and a very visible police presence. But that doesn’t stop me from seeing my life flash in front of me whenever I cross.

SueParticipantLast year I was trying to get a crosswalk or streetlight at my intersection and had simply emailed the general email on the page that was linked to above. Someone got back to me, and then I had a “real live human” email address to write to about it. If you can get a few neighbors to also contact them about the same intersection you have in mind, it might have more impact. A few of us had been contacting them about the intersection at Fauntleroy & Dawson, and we recently got word that it’s on the schedule for a light in 2008, which was great news. It took a long time of investigating (they needed to look at history of the intersection, and then send crew out at a typical busy time to see what’s going on) and all other sorts of bureacratic stuff though. Can’t guarantee your outcome, but the more people contacting them about the same thing can’t hurt.
