WSBKeymasterThis is an area for people to post requests for others’ recommendations about specific types of services and businesses in West Seattle. Please make the topic title as specific as possible — e.g. “Looking for a (whatever).” If you are replying to a request with information about a business that you own or are otherwise involved with, we ask that you disclose that. This is NOT an area for anyone to launch a topic about their own business or service without a question having been posted by another user (different IP address) first. Thanks!

AnonymousInactiveIs there a way to seach the forum for certain topics or tags, say “plumber” or “fence”? When I do the search function I only get returns from the blog proper. Thanks.

LauriYMemberI second the last question. The Forum is pretty worthless with out a search option.

squareeyesParticipantcopy and paste this into google:
site:westseattleblog.com/blog/forum plumber
(or whatever your topic is)
Someone else had posted this instruction a few weeks ago and it works perfectly. It’s so handy I keep it next to my computer for easy reference. It would be even handier if it was posted at the top of the forum page… ;)

WSBKeymasterI’ll apologize again (did it once somewhere else) for the search situation. Search on the site currently works for everything BUT the forum, which uses a different database. Google indexes everything so the shortcut mentioned above will work in the short run; we hope to have this problem solved soon, along with some other technical upgrades we’ll be working on soon — TR

austinMemberI threw this together
http://googlewest.home.comcast.net/
for searching the forums. Just a shortcut for the google search string but a handy bookmark regardless.

inactiveMemberWow – I just tried it. It worked beautifully for me for both a blog search and forum search.
Well done Austin!
Thanks!

dustinParticipantQuestion: Is it appropriate to start a thread recommending a local West Seattle business that you had an awesome experience with? I just worked with a very new West Seattle fencing contractor who was stellar and thought I’d add his name to the most recent fencing thread, but that looks to be almost 8 months old (so not really current). No worries if we don’t think that is a good idea, just thought I’d ask. :)
Thanks,
Dustin(I am in no way connected to this vendor through friends, family, or business ties..legitimately just a pleased customer).
