AnonymousInactiveAll I can say about that is, it’s a good thing that marine is under protective custody. I would imagine a lot of people would try to do him harm. That is horrible!!!

JoBParticipanti must have missed something…
March 5, 2008 at 4:24 am #616524
AnonymousInactiveOn the news JoB. He killed a puppy on video. I can’t bring myself to read past the title.
March 5, 2008 at 4:53 am #616525
AnonymousInactiveI can’t post the link because it’s too disturbing. It’s a horrific situation. I’m not sure if it is real, I guess they are still investigating, but I really hope it’s not.
March 5, 2008 at 6:15 am #616526
JeraldParticipantI didn’t watch it, but just reading about it made me nauseous. At least I hope that’s what’s making me feel sick. I’ve heard several reports of stomach flu going around.
March 5, 2008 at 6:24 am #616527
JoBParticipanti don’t want to know… i won’t watch it… this is why i so seldom actually watch the news.
March 5, 2008 at 6:33 am #616528
AdamOnAlkiParticipantI accidentally watched it. It was horrible. I am disgusted and out-raged. I don’t suggest watching it. It makes me feel far too much anger towards my fellow man.
March 5, 2008 at 6:30 pm #616529
TrickParticipantI noticed it early yesterday morning, and as I was discussing it with a friend, KIRO710 had the sister call in and she was quoted as saying:
“He’s really a warm caring individual”
That video made me sick to my stomach.
And probably won’t leave my thoughts anytime soon.
March 5, 2008 at 6:35 pm #616530
JoBParticipanti really appreciate the heads up on this one because the cute marine holding the puppy was on a page i went to looking for election news and i might have clicked on it had i not been warned. i have a real soft spot for puppies… if you couldn’t tell:)
thanks to you all.. i was spared.
this must be horrible for his family though.
March 5, 2008 at 6:35 pm #616531
AnonymousInactiveI’m thinking (or hoping) more and more that it is fake. First of all, the distance seems unrealistic to me.
My husband won’t stop talking about it (not in a gross way, but sad). It has really affected him.
March 5, 2008 at 6:38 pm #616532
AnonymousInactiveYeah, JoB – DON’T watch it!
March 5, 2008 at 7:20 pm #616533
charlabobParticipantIt appears that the Marine is from Snohomish and his family has been getting death threats. They’ve taken down all of their web pages and disconnected their phones.
I must say, the puppy is cute — the Marine, ‘eh, not my type. I’m afraid the stress of battle won’t work, since he’s stationed in Hawaii and that’s where the horror happened.
But I am sad that we (the people, not the people of this blog) aren’t as concerned about the innocent Iraquis who are tortured and killed in horrible ways in our names.
March 5, 2008 at 7:52 pm #616534
AnonymousInactivecharlabob – I don’t think it’s a fair comparison to bring up IRAQ. Apples and oranges so to speak. Of course everyone is bothered about the innocent lives lost there. And most I know discuss it on a regular basis. The puppy story is a current event that tugs at our heartstrings because of the complete vulnerability. Couldn’t run, hide, or fight back in any way. Just a baby. And the cruelty is so intentional it’s hard to fathom. Reacting to this story doesn’t negate or diminish our feelings toward war. What would it say about we as a people if this didn’t bother us as well.
March 5, 2008 at 8:25 pm #616535
charlabobParticipantJT, I’m not at all dismissing the cruelty and the validity of the outrage.
I’m only comparing it with events in Iraq because, for example I didn’t hear the same level of outrage when several marines were charged with raping and killing an Iraqi child (14) and killing her family and trying to burn the bodies. There was outrage, but there was also defensiveness.
I specifically said I was talking about people in general and not the people of this blog community because the event in Iraq happened before this blog existed and I firmly believe there would have been an enormous and universal reaction of outrage about it here.
It’s always amazing to me what people think they can do to animals. Sadly, they often get away with it — this event became news because someone made a quick movie, with sound, and because the puppy was so damned cute.
Donate to a group that does animal rescue — or the feral cat rescue folks with spay and neuter clinics — foster and socializae puppies who might otherwise be killed. Make sure your neighbor with the pit bull has the money to have him/her neutered. This is a tough time for “pets”…economic downturns hit them first.
Do it in the name of Puppy X.
March 5, 2008 at 8:47 pm #616536
AnonymousInactiveJT – Very well said!
March 5, 2008 at 10:42 pm #616537
rs261MemberThat video is so fake btw, “puppy” doesnt move at all, and the sound is horrible.
March 6, 2008 at 12:38 am #616538
AnonymousInactivers261 – Have authorities determined the video is fake, or is that your opinion? I’m really hoping it’s fake, but all the security surrounding this marine has me concerned that maybe it’s not.
My husband brought up the fact that the puppy doesn’t move, but it could just be scared. My problem with the authenticity of it was the distance. The sound (at least from the dog) seems fake to me as well.
March 6, 2008 at 12:42 am #616539
beachdrivegirlParticipantEven if it is fake. it takes a sick sick individual to make even a fake video on that…
March 6, 2008 at 12:47 am #616540
AnonymousInactivebeachdrivegirl- that’s what I don’t understand (maybe that’s a good thing because maybe that means I’m not crazy), but how and why do people ever come up with the idea to do something like that? It’s kinda like the situation that was going on on this forum in the past couple of days (of course, not to the same extent); what kind of people get these ideas and think that they are good ones?
March 6, 2008 at 12:55 am #616541
ErikParticipantThe ego is always looking for a way to validate itself by standing out (to be more special than others). Perhaps this was their way of saying “hey I bet this will get a million hits on Youtube!” Fame, whether positive or negative is what it’s after.
In lieu of doing something positive to find this fame, they’ll take the easier, darker route.
March 6, 2008 at 1:38 am #616542
AnonymousInactive“If this is something legitimate, it’s one of the most egregious acts of animal cruelty I have ever seen, if not the most,†said Dr. Matt Mickas, chief of Community Practice Services at WSU’s veterinary college.
He said it did not appear fake to him, because of the way the animal went slack by being held from the neck.
“To me, the sound on the YouTube clip sounded like a puppy in distress — the same sound we hear when the puppies come into the hospital,†Mickas said
March 6, 2008 at 1:45 am #616543
KayleighMemberThey know his name and address. Why hasn’t the sick b***** been arrested?
March 6, 2008 at 1:54 am #616544
JoBParticipantI refuse to have an opinion on the authenticity of the video because i refuse to watch it.. it’s very existence… real of fake… is enough to offend me.
charlabob… i think it is easier to respond to cruelty to animals than cruelty to humans… especially when cloaked in war. That kind of cruelty to humans is simply to atrocious to talk about.
March 6, 2008 at 2:12 am #616545
beachdrivegirlParticipantJoB I havent watched it either. I had heard about it on the radio on the way to work..and was almost sick!
March 6, 2008 at 2:28 am #616546
barmargiaMemberKayleigh, as disgusting this is, whether it’s a “joke” or real, I don’t think it’s technically enough to arrest someone over. I don’t know for sure but I’m pretty sure the military has him. But I also do not think that his family warranted death threats. Because he did something so deplorable doesn’t mean his family was at all responsible.
