cloverdoParticipantwhat is your go-to for buying fresh/sustainable seafood? Thanks!

rwParticipant1) Uwajimaya
2) West Seattle Fish
3) Mutual
4) Metro
5) PCCThese rankings are based on a combination of selection, price, and convenience. Uwajimaya and Mutual win when I’m already away from West Seattle and want a broader selection.

rwParticipantAlso check out Lam’s in the ID and Seafood City at Southcenter for even broader selection, but you are own your own to make sustainable choices with them.

cloverdoParticipantThanks rw. I had seen some negative Yelp comments about West Seattle Fish, but they were quite old. Any thoughts on Thriftway?

rwParticipantI live just a few blocks from pcc and metro, so very rarely shop at Thriftway and have never bought seafood there. I’ve been a patron of Seattle Fish since they first opened, and am happy for their growth, but wish they had a better selection and prices, and they should do a better job of serving both their retail and restaurant customers. Retail sometimes seems secondary to the restaurant.

FranciParticipantI live near the Thriftway and get most of my fish there – sometimes I’ll go to the West Seattle Fish market too. Both have a fine selection.

Michael WaldoParticipantEven though we live in Arbor Heights, we find it worth while to go north to Metro Market for our Halibut. Always good, always good price.

GreystreetParticipantLike Michael above, we too live in Arbor Heights–I always check local first so I go to the Roxbury Safeway, their selection is not always the most robust but when salmon is in season it isn’t a bad place to start–I avoid Met Market or PCC as that isn’t in my budget, I’ll swing through the Fish Market but like above, I find their prices to be pretty steep, my favorite place to go is right to Pike Place Market, the first market right in the middle as your going south through the market (the first real fish counter you get to) typically has great prices on fish that is in season and we have had great luck there with Copper River Salmon prices and other locals like oysters.
