missmandyMemberHey all. I am a new stay at home mom with a 3 1/2 week old baby boy! Now that I have gotten into the groove of things, I need to get out of the house. Does anyone know of any West S. mommy’s groups or fun things to do with a new baby?

pamMemberOkay, I’ll say it….. make a copy of this posting for the baby’s scrapbook so you can look back and laugh at how ‘into the groove’ you were feeling at this moment! HA-HA
There are a number of groups out there, I’m sure one of the other ‘new’ mommys will post to give you information – there is PEPS and MOPS and a few others.

rudyMemberCongratulations! I so recommend PEPS too. I loved my newborn group experience so much that I recently just finished leading a group. You meet weekly with other new moms/dads in the area and have a chance to discuss all kinds of new mom topics. My group gelled super well so we often met up for walks or coffee dates at other times during the week too. We still gather frequently and our kids are now almost two.

carrieannMemberCongratulations! In addition to PEPS, which I wasn’t personally involved with but have friends and neighbors who have been and swear by it, there are some meet-up groups, which are quite active.

feefeelarueMemberI would like to know if there are any groups for single moms with older children – not tots yet not tweens?

carrieannMemberfeefeelarue – I don’t know if you’re hoping for a mom-specific group, or if you’re open to one for single parents, in general, but I found this:
Seattle Single Parents Meetup Group
http://www.meetup.com/The-Seattle-Single-Parents-Meetup-Group/
Has over 500 members, so if it’s not exactly what you’re looking for, there may be members involved who can provide additional resources.

JulieMemberWe are extremely lucky in West Seattle to have the Parent Education program at South Seattle Community College. Not just for older children: they have parent/infant classes, too. It’s a fantastic way to connect with other parents of babies, and the instructors are a wonderful resource for learning the job of parenting! (Babies still don’t come with instruction manuals, alas!) My children are now adults, but I count the 10 years I spent in SSCC’s parent ed program absolutely crucial.
Registration for fall is going on now, I see. Here’s the phone number for information on infant classes: (206) 784-5247.
