Found a pile of opened mail under a bush this morning at the NW corner of 41st & 106th. Most of the guts were gone from the envelopes, but there was one insert from an insurance company addressed to someone on Marine View Dr. This was clearly mail theft, I’m trying to find the local post office phone # to report it.

Please report it to the police as well (and we always appreciate getting these as e-mails so we can include in Crime Watch reports, if we don’t see the Forum post) – ultimately it’s a postal-inspector deal but I have seen SPD reports taken on mail theft. I think there may be a specific USPS page rather than just calling your local post office – if I find it I’ll add it here. – TR

Hi, Thought I’d share that we have been victims of mail theft TWICE now…. Arbor Heights neighborhood. First time was a new box of new checks and someone began emptying out that account. Second time, the thief stole 2 new credit cards from the same bank and went on a 3 day shopping spree before the bank notified us of unusual activity. We did indeed report both to the police AND the U.S. Postal Service. Nothing was ever followed up on. In fact, I did my own detective work and contacted the managers of all the stores that the credit cards were used. One in particular had actual surveillance video captured with date and time that matched ther credit card report. We contacted the police and they replied that they did NOT have the man power to follow up on it. I’m still mad about that when the manager at the store also wanted to turn it in. Also, I had our mail delivery person snap a photo of the VERY suspicious man that is only seen in our neighborhood when ever we’ve had vandelism. We did turn the photo into the police department but without seeing him in “action” we cannot accuse him of any crime. That particular person was caught in our ally as well, just after our storage unit was opened wide open from being securly closed. This man Always carries a black brief case and usually wears a hat of some sort. Last viewing of him in our neighborhood, he was wearing a trench coat on a nice day and walks very fast… long strides. Keep your eyes peeled!!!

P.S. I also should mention we’ve had one car stolen from our home, but that was about 5 years ago.

Mrs. H, I’ve seen the dude you describe and there did seem to be something ‘off’ about him that the briefcase failed to disguise. And you’re right about reports to police and the USPS as well, unfortunately. I tried both, and neither was interested. A few weeks ago I called police with info on Ian Stawicki. They never called me back, so I don’t expect a big response over opened mail. These days everyone should really have a locking mailbox.

anonyme, I know at least three people who have mailboxes that don’t lock. I have asked if they were worried about mail theft, and have told me no. I don’t get it.

FYI, we’ve recently been experiencing mail/package theft regularly in the Sunrise Heights neighborhood. I watched a neighbor and the mail man confront a young woman about it a few weeks back. She of course denied it and walked away. Apparently (according to the mail man) she was recently arrested and something crazy like over 100 packages were found at her home. Glad to hear at least ONE of these thiefs has been caught!
