SPD Southwest Precinct Captain Bair will be joining us to discuss police response and ways we can impact this/these issue(s). Like many other neighborhoods, Highland Park, South Delridge and Riverview have been experiencing an uptick in shots fired and other violence, specifically:
At 12th and Holden vicinity around 7PM on Sunday Aug 30 – SPD 26-258046 – where a 21-year-old man was wounded in arm and leg. He was walking at the time of shooting with a relative.
At 16th and Barton around Noon on Tuesday Sept 1 – SPD 26-259960 – where another man was seriously wounded after altercation with victim.
At 12th and Holden not sure exact location but Tuesday Sept 1 at 9PM at 12th and Holden when a neighbor walking her dog heard shots fired.
On Sept 1, at the vicinity of 18th SW and SW Cloverdale multiple gunshots reports around 4AM with casings found.
There are urgent questions in our community regarding whether there have been any arrests related to these shootings or if there are any other updates that can be shared on the investigation(s), and whether these shootings are connected to other incidents, such as armed robberies and stabbings, within our precinct or other Seattle neighborhoods. We are asking what SPD and the city are doing to investigate and prevent future shootings and hope to collectively brainstorm what constructive things the community can do to reduce shootings in our neighborhood.

HPAC welcomes Homestead Community Land Trust – Since 2017 HPAC has been advocating for affordable housing and street level commercial improvements at the former Dumar City Light property on the southwest corner of 16th Ave. SW and SW Holden St.

Homestead Community Land Trust the non-profit developer selected to design and building this project and SMR Architects have been working to incorporate the community’s early guidance about what should be built at the former Dumar Substation site. They will share an update on the project’s design and permitting timeline and invite further community input, particularly on options for the ground-floor commercial or retail space. They will also answer general questions about the project.

We will also have a brief construction update from the adjacent Holden Natural Drainage Systems Project – which will finally be starting the work this fall.
