JoB, I agree – and I can brush swipes off as just that, a swipe; it doesn’t ellicit the desired response in me – now incessant rehashing of the same thing over and over again (MY definition of trolling anyway – potstirring, attention seeking), often gets a response and that’s where I’m putting my efforts to ignore

CP – I love that he’s fidgeting with his wedding the band while checking out her backside; though maybe she had a piece of lint on her suit that was really bugging him!

Did people know that Palin supported Obama’s energy plan, as of 8/4/2008?

    I find it….interesting.

That is interesting – here’s Palin’s transcript for those who may have missed last night:

House is a troll and doesn’t have the right to make swipes at the intelligence of the posters – that is a violation.

He likes to criticize, but adds nothing of value to the conversation. IGNORE him and he will go away. Don’t take the bait!

Well, I thought that I would weigh in with a conservative’s opinion of the speech.

I thought she did great. I was extremely impressed with her head-on tactic of the recent bashing of herself, her experience and her family.

I think it’s really too bad that so many women on the “other” side are dismissing her simply because of what the media has done (or just because she is Republican). She’s tough, she’s driven and she’s smart. These are qualities that, regardless of political party, should be admired in a woman.

She has my admiration and she also has my vote!

    NR! I’ve been waiting!

I have to say I see where you’re impressed – she’s funny at least (smug, snide and needs to learn hwo to apply lipstick, but entertaining as all get out!)

THIS liberal lady, however, was not impressed and not for the reasons you’d think. It had not a thing to do with her personal life but with the innumerable factual errors in her speech used to make cheap shots at the other side – I just thought it lacked integrity and I hated the insinuation that it takes a pitbull in lipstick in order to put a woman in the White House.

Like was said previously, she and Giuliani are the Flavor Flavs of the Republican party – hype men with not a lot of substance. Not that the dems aren’t guilty sometimes, but I would have hoped to see her rise above it and speak on what she’s going to do for my pocketbook and my uterus seeing that despite the current situation this is an important election and not just a bout of playground mudslinging.

NR – where was the substance in her speech? And for that matter, the accuracies? I’d like to hear you comment on that.

You take us to task for “judging” her as women, but you are essentially using your “judgement” as a woman as well if the reason you are voting for her is because she has qualities in a “woman” that you admire.

I really wanted to hear her thoughts on issues, but that just wasn’t forthcoming from her last night.

Sarah Palin is in way over her head, why is that so hard for some to see?

If you were to compare Palin’s speech with any Obama speech in measure of “substance”, and considered Obama more forthcoming with his alleged plans, you are only seeing what you want to see, IMO.

As you suggested in another thread (I can’t keep track of all of them anymore), you are comfortable voting for someone who, not only does NOT have a plan for Iraq, but has gone back and forth on what this plan would be.

My vote is not limited to the fact that Palin is a woman, I think that would be sexist. I am voting for Palin because she is about reform (she has consistently stood up to her own Party), she is smart, capable and has accomplished a lot within the limited amount of experience that she does have. She also just happens to be a woman.

HP – Why do you see her as “in way over her head”?

So last night, as I watched Palin’s debut on the national stage, something struck me. First, of course, she was polished and poised and handling her new found celebrity with confidence. She even pulled off an ad lib that was her greatest laugh line of the night. In response to the homemade “Hockey Moms for Palin” signs that were being held aloft, she said, “I love those hockey moms. You know the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull? Lipstick!” (thunderous laughter and applause from the crowd)

Now let me share with you another of those headline stories from three weeks ago:

Child Taken Off Life Support After Pit Bull Attack.

This was the big news story in Alaska for several days that week. A child and her babysitter were viciously attacked by the family pet pit bull. The owner surrendered the dog, waited for the girls father to return from his deployment in Iraq, and watched as his six-year-old daughter was taken off life support after she went into an irreversably vegetative state.

I don’t know how other Alaska residents felt about the pit bull joke, and obviously her audience loved it, but most of us here in “small town America” probably didn’t find it particularly funny.

new res, I dont think sarah palin understands life in most of america so how could she represent us to the world?

HP agreed. She has been living in the bubble of Alaska. I’ve lived in Alaska and it is completely different than living in the lower 48 states.

I feel to discredit her experience in Alaska, or somehow argue that it doesn’t count, is to dismiss all of small town America. Because she comes from a small town and because she has brought change to that small town and because she also has the highest approval ratings of any Governor in America, makes her even more refreshing.

I like that she didn’t go to an Ivy league college and map out her political career from the age of 20. I like that she fell into politics because she cared and wanted to make a difference where she and her family live. From there, she has stumbled upon one of the most important jobs in America. If this alone doesn’t shake up Washington and bring change and reform to Washington politics, I don’t know what will.

Palin Derangement Syndrome. It’s what’s for breakfast, lunch, and dinner I see..

30 million watched it last night. It was the most ever for a Vice Presidential candidate.

That being said, she’s proven that she can deliver a speech before a friendly audience and that she’s not to going to be a shrinking violent from criticism or controversy. Those are good traits, but not the only ones.

She’s going to have to prove her mettle time and time again over the next 2 months – whether it’s going toe to toe with Biden or even against Obama in the experience department. The Democrats are going to have to move away from that debate pretty quickly if they want a chance – to be compared to the VP in the other party isn’t a winning hand.

We’ve got to hear more on policy, though her stirring support for being an advocate of the disabled is quite important.

We’re going to be heading into a sprint for the WH, and McCain has to give his speech tonight, which I’m sure many will find anti-climatic after Palin’s performance last night. Yet, at the end of the day, the American people are choosing to elect McCain or Obama. He’s going to have to come through. His very wise decision to go with Palin speaks to his judgment and unorthodox approach, which compares favorably to Obama’s safe (only?) choice in Biden. Of which she will more than likely tear that arrogant, condescending Joe Biden a new one in the debates, can’t wait!

I would have given anything to be a documentary film maker producing a short film about the various reactions of the key Democrat “players” at the very moment Sara Palin concluded her RNC acceptance speech.

Obviously that wasn’t possible, but here is how I imagined it would have gone:

    Clinton residence:

Hillary – “Holy F’ing Sh*t! She’s a REAL, down to earth, poised, intelligent, America-loving, good looking woman…where do those Republicans come up with these people?

Bill: – “I’d hit that” *under his breath…

    Obama residence:

Obama – but, but, but…they said I didn’t have enough experience so I picked Biden to shore things up, WTF! Is it too late to swap in Hillary? Would that make me look indecisive? Michelle, what should I do?

Michelle: Barry, why don’t you start writing your 3rd memoir and title it “How I Managed to Snatch Defeat from the Jaws of Victory in One Easy Step”.

    Nancy Pelosi residence:

Nancy – So that’s what people are looking for in a woman in politics…integrity, guts, America-first attitide…now I get it…

“Hillary – “Holy F’ing Sh*t! She’s a REAL, down to earth, poised, intelligent, America-loving, good looking woman…where do those Republicans come up with these people?”

Hillary must not have been watching the speech I was. Worthy effort… was the derangement you’re speaking about in reference to what you’re feeling today? I don’t think the dems are intimidated, I think we’re just all out offended. Say what you will about it, you can’t win a presidency or a vice presidency on cheap shots alone. Can’t wait to see if she actually has something else to bring to the table, but I’m not holding MY breath.

I agree CP – she didn’t say anything last night to make me think she has any real plans for our country.

Tonya – McCain’s speeches are always anti-climactic to me.

Also – is it really necessary to use cuss words to express your ideas? I thought you had a bigger vocabulary than that. Doesn’t really work well for convincing me of your ideas.

Tonya, the reason she was watched by so many is that people were hoping to hear her speak to some of the points brought up about her and the campaign. NOTHING was brought up. I also find that you are desperately tunnel visioned when it comes to this topic. I nor anyone will change or even cause your mind to think another way for a moment. And before you attack me let me clarify that I was not an Obama supporter until 2 weeks ago. So I have looked at both options and for me as a white woman, I feel Obama/Biden offer better hope for me than McCain/Palin. Obama and Biden continue to take the high road and I can’t say as much for the others, as proof last nights speeches.

I think now that people have heard her speak, the fervor will die down, and we will now focus on what makes her and McCain NOT right for the WH.

mellaw – I understand that you don’t feel that anything specific was addressed last night by Palin.

My question to you, then, would have to be:

What, specifically, are the plans of Obama that you are so supportive of?

And, I mean specifics, since that seems your main issue with Palin.

Is it his tax plan (that most are convinced will NOT affect them), his health care plan (government-paid and government-mandated insurance that will prevent greater innovation, life-saving cures and efficiency), his proposed massive tax increase on U.S. oil and gas companies (yet continuing to cut off U.S. territory to drilling) or is it his vagueness (which borders on uncertainty) regarding the war? Maybe because he WON’T commit to a concrete plan that makes people comfortable in voting for him.

When I have asked, on this forum, and my liberal friends about specific bills that Obama supports and that are important to him, they oftentimes have not even heard of them. The common response is basically that if Obama thinks it is good, then it must be. I can’t think of much that is more vague than that.

She has charisma – I’ll give her that, but I truly don’t see her appealing to the demographic they so hoped to claim with her (token) VP nod.

I would love to see her speak to the REAL America. Last night in front of the RNC was not it, any more than the DNC would be. Let’s see how she appeals to both sides, and everyone inbetween – without a teleprompter. Bring on the debates!

BTW – that video was h-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s!

I didn’t think I used any curse words? Did I?

I said derangement and meant it towards the myriad of comments that have been made on this thread, they sound like they come right out of the Enquirer..

My mind is open, however yes I have chosen to vote for McCain. This is not written in stone mind you, if any one of you could tell me why I should vote for Obama and Biden then please do!

Palin won the hearts of millions last night and it’s a surprise to everyone but mostly the media.

They are grasping for dirt and they fail everytime. The latest media-invented scandal about Palin is that McCain didn’t know her well before choosing her as his running mate. He knew her well enough, though admittedly, not as well as Obama knows William Ayers.

Until Clinton interviewed Al Gore one time before choosing him as his vice presidential candidate, he had met Gore only one other time: when Gore was running for president in 1988 and flew to Little Rock seeking Clinton’s endorsement. Clinton turned him down.

As brilliant as she is beautiful. A rare combination in the modern world, and a surefire way to piss off femi-nazis everywhere.

Please don’t forget “your” own media has not been all too kind either. It’s across the board – very pro and very con.

Some generic examples of Obama’s stand on the issues. Along with everyone else I will be listening for the HOW.

    * Supports Stem Cell Research

    * Supports a woman’s right to choose

    * Voted YES on the Yes on the Teen Pregnancy Education Amendment

    * Supports Reducing American Troops and focus on training to more quickly pass responsibility to Iraqi Government (it seems this is truly what they want as well)

    * Supports legislation to greatly improve benefits for US Veterans (the current state managed by a Republican President during wartime is an abomination)

    * Wants to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in the US Army

    * Supports equal Gay & Lesbian Adoption Rights

    * Supports Gay Civil Unions – which is a start!

    * More Pell Grants and Summer Learning Programs through schools

    * Supports legislation to reward school districts for improving student achievement in an effort to attract and retain quality teachers

    * Support expanded AIDS research

…and I must add, beyond Obama and Biden – what gives me confidence is his ability to surround himself with extremely organized, intelligent, politically savvy people. The campaign thus far is a good sign of that.

After 8 years of a President who seemingly hands out jobs to old friends like candy, I welcome this change.

See Tonya there you go again. You start off making a point and then ruin it with a back-handed comment. Thats how it was last night too on TV. Starts off with something and then craps it out with snideness or passive agressiveness.

Please tell me what makes Sarah Palin so brillant. Hard facts that you know not what you can copy and paste from a website, because we can all do that. Myself included.
