Last Monday night my husband and I met with West Seattle’s own car seat lady. She was WONDERFUL. She fit us into her busy schedule (we had a last minute induction scheduled for the next day, helped us install our car seat and shared a wealth of information on car seats and car seat safety. She was funny and a joy to talk with. She left us with her email address and phone number and told us we could call her 24 hours a day to get help with the car seats (a service of hers for people she has met).

Her service is free, she comes to your house and if you think her service was worth it she will accept tips (we of course did). It was much easier on us that trying to find a place to go where we could get the car seat inspected, and she started us out from scratch putting it in and explaining the whys and hows of what she was advocating. She also (based on our current car) gave us a list of her recommendations for car seats for when our little guy graduates from his infant seat.

If you’re expecting and need a car seat inspected I’d highly recommend calling the car seat lady (Sue Emery) 206.619.2871. She’s a certified child passenger safety technician and really knows her stuff. We drove home from the hospital knowing our new family member was safe and sound in his well-installed car seat. http://www.800bucklup.org

She was wonderful for us, too, when we first set up for our infant seat. When we took her up on her offer to call any time, we scheduled with her to come help install a toddler seat. She did not show and did not return our call. No apology even though we waited for her, never heard from her again.

Great info, effective install, but can be unreliable.

Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic has a certified installer who does car seat checks every Friday. Her name is Antwanette. Great to work with. We now go to her with any questions, checks and donations. MUCH more reliable.
