I took the kids to the Center today so that we could ride the shuttle over to watch the hydros and Angels. I drove all over but could not find a parking place. I had left without a cash card and had only my emergency Discover Card on me. None of the parking areas will take Discover and I was just ready to give up when a very kind gentleman pulled up and offered me his parking stub that he was not going to use.

I am so thankful!! We were just going to go home and the kids were very disappointed.

I doubt that he’s from West Seattle but wanted to rave anyhow.

That is so nice! More of us should do that. One time I accidentally bought 4 hours of parking (didn’t even realize it was a 4 hr parking and was upset I bought the max!) so when I left I gave my parking sticker to someone pulling up behind me. Didn’t want that parking to go to waste. So glad your kids weren’t disappointed over parking issues!

we should tell more stories like this.

it’s so easy to focus on those who irritate us.. and forget the kid who held the door for me.. or the man who picked up the wallet i dropped without knowing and handed it to me… or the stranger who kindly asked me where i was going and helped me find the right bus.. or…

kindness acknowledged and passed on grows..

i am glad to know there are still gentlemen.. and ladies.. in the world.

Karen, that is such a great story! I am so glad that you were able to take the shuttle over and keep everyone happy :)

on a side note, one thing that most do when downtown is if you buy parking and have one of those stickers ant there is time left b/c you over bought i see many people (and i do it myself) go back to the pay station and stick it on there. Then the next person arriving that goes to pay can grab your sticker and use it. Just a thought

BDG, that is a good idea! Next time I’m downtown I’ll do that. It’s just frustrating when I buy parking for the entire time and then don’t use it all. I miss the old parking meters where the person behind you automatically got some of your time.

Not to pee in everyone’s Cheerios here, but I’m 99% sure that under the Seattle Code you’re not allowed to give your parking sticker to anyone else, and you can actually be written a ticket for it. You can take your sticker with unused time and use it elsewhere in the city, but can’t give it to another person.

So go ahead and share, but be educated about what the consequences could be.

That’s just crappy. I mean, if the parking is paid for and the city is getting it’s money – who care who paid for it? I remember when people would get in trouble for filling the parking meters, too. Why does the city care who pays?

Well that is just stupid. The city just wants to nickel and dime us any way they can.

I try to do this at pay lots with dashboard receipts (have never seen any posted rules against it). I have a knack for needing that particular magic number that comes right before a ridiculously long time frame – i.e. 3 – 12 hours for $X – more often that not, I’m going to be 3.5 hours, so I try to pass along my slip of paper to the first person I see.

Even if there are “rules” about it i think it would be a pretty tough thing to prove that you were using a receipt paid for by someone else or that you passed it along to someone else it isnt like your license number is on it.

Surprisingly enough, it is also illegal to pay for a parking meter that is not occupied by your vehicle. Bob Loblaw and his roll of quarters learned this the hard way one day. Just trying to spread a little karma. Almost got spread across a car hood instead.
