Today I went to the matinee at the Paramount — Cats, which I had never seen. I am a subscriber and am amazed at the behavior. Today, I was stuck behind a very tall couple- I am short. I can deal with that, as its cetainly not their fault that they are tall (or me for being short). But between dodging right and left to see – the two adult women behind me had two toddlers – which constantly disrupted the show. The one women was so large that every time she moved she bumped the back of my chair. Then putting the toddler, as she said “on her stomach” so the kid could see and quit fiddling, kept bumping me. Imagine — bump, bump “mommie the cats are pretty…mommie, mommie what did they say” At the intermission I finally had to say something, and neither adult responded… but there were a few less bumps in the 2nd act.

If that was not bad enough, the couple next to me kept checking their cell phones, virtually lighting the entire row every 5 minutes ……

People, get a sitter when you go to the theater and leave the rug rats at home. I suspect they justified it by paying for the kids seat, which one never sat in. Also, if you are expecting a call, either dont go to theater — or get a phone ya can turn on vibrate (and learn to use it).

It was so distracting, I cant tell ya what the show was about, other than its title- and $60 for a ticket is my entertainment for the month — which these borish people ruined. I’ve never seen such poor behavior, even at a matinee.

I’m constantly amazed by the bad behavior I have witnessed in Seattle area theaters. When I first moved to Seattle (about 10 years ago), I went to the ballet and was shocked to see a German Shepherd in the row behind me. It was apparently a service dog, but not a trained one – he barked throughout the performance!

Thankfully, that was the worst I’ve seen, but there have been some doozies… :)

I had to endure a similar disruption while seeing one of my favorite performers (Andrew Bird) at The Moore recently. The woman sitting next to us (it’s always the people sitting next to US it seems) was singing along – to every song…LOUDLY. I did not pay to come to the show to hear HER. I don’t mind if people stand in front of me – hey, it’s a ROCK SHOW and I chose to sit (I was battling pretty bad “night sickness” at the time)…but singing along is uncalled for and annoying. Dance and mouth the words all you want – but let me HEAR the damn music. And the people who TALK throughout a performance (they are always some) I simply don’t get – why did you even come?
