DPMemberNo, I’m not talking about some lame-o congressman. I’m talking about a grandpa I saw today at Riverview Park playground. He was spending some face time with his two adorable little grandkids.
âOnly not really face time, ‘cuz this guy’s fool face was actually glued to his cell phone as he made call after call after call, ignoring the kids. (Good thing they had each other.)
Dude, I hope you’re looking at this . . . I don’t know what business deal or drinking buddy you thought was more important than making eye contact with your own grandkids, but I’m here to tell ya yer a dumfoof.
Yeah, you heard me right, pal. I made up that word special, just for you, cuz it fits you to a tee.
Dumfoof! Dumfoof!
Foof! Foof! Foof!
Yap, yap, yap, yap, yap!

karenParticipantSo, do you KNOW this is the kids’ grampa? Do you know this family? I’m just wondering if you know this for a fact or are just assuming that grampa is choosing to be on the cell instead of spend face time with his grandkids. And were the kids unhappy with the situation or just you?
Maybe he works from home and thought that the kids could at least play at the park while he did some stuff.
Maybe he was called for emergency babysitting but still had to accomplish his stuff.
Maybe he’s in the middle of a family crisis and while dealing with it is allowing the kids to burn off a little energy.
Maybe lots of things.
There have been times when I HAD to take care of stuff and I took the kids to the park while I did my stuff on the phone, on the computer, in a notebook, whatever.
Cut the guy some slack. At least the kids were at the park not parked in front of a screen.

DPMemberYou’re right, Karen. I was too hard on the guy. Slack has been cut.
Sorry guy.
Anyway, thanks to both you and Cait for responding. I needed a karma credit, and I got it from you.

Now on to more hi-jinx . . .

DPMemberOy, what a day I’ve had already this morning.
So I’m walking back from the local donut dispensary, right, when I see this lady approaching me from the opposite direction. I can tell she’s gonna be a doozy from a hundred feet down the sidewalk, but when she gets close up, it’s even worse than I thought. She’s laughing and talking to herself, grasping at the air with her hands (catching flies, apparently). Totally oblivious to the real world all around her. I say “Hi” just to be polite, but she doesn’t even respond.
A lunatick, obviously.
Well as soon as that lady passes me, I see that there’s another lady a hundred feet behind her on the sidewalk, and this second one’s using one of those “blue tooth” dealie-bobbers and . . .

Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I think I got the story mixed up.

kootchmanMemberNow do ya feel horrid DP?…. but you are right. The parents of the soccer team I coached, generously took us all out for pizza after (ahem) our prevailing championship final. The girls were sitting on either side of the table, 10 to a side, all facing each other. They were texting …. across the vastness of the 2 feet or so that separated them. Thumbing through my Parental Response book…the topic wasn’t covered.
