Puppy dumping ground

Yesterday my daughter dropped me off at Gregg Davis park off of Delridge on Graham and 26th. She continued up Graham to High Point for and hour or so, and would then pick me up. While walking on one of the trails a small mostly black with light brown paws limped up to me on three legs and literally dripping wet and just looked up at me.. Needless to say he was cold and shivering. When I picked him up, he yelped and shrieked in pain. He was very calm and very sweet. I took my sweatshirt off and wrapped him in it. I walked back to the place where my daughter was to pick me up all the while looking for someone that maybe was looking for their lost pup. When my daughter arrived and saw me with the pup she couldn’t believe it. She said after she dropped me off going through the area of Graham/ Longfellow creek trail area and the south end Camp Long, she noticed a small Asian man carrying a small black dog into the woods. She said she definitely got a weird vibe from him. Well come to find out it was the same puppy. We took him to our vet VCA on California Ave. We agreed to have him examined and X-rayed, just to find out what the problem was and also to see if he was chipped. Needless to say no chip and and found out from the Dr he was only only 6-8 weeks. He had a badly broken leg that would require an orthopedic surgeon. We had to leave him there as we couldn’t afford the get the surgery and we already have 2 small dogs. He was such a sweet puppy, he just laid his head on my arm, super friendly and sweet regardless of what the guy did to him.

That poor puppy was thrown or dropped into the creek by that guy. The way he was carrying him, the pup wasn’t squealing or fussing, so I really don’t think his leg was broken yet. And the creek is so low there is no way that poor pup would be so wet, unless it had been thrown or dropped…,on purpose.

Just needed to get it off my chest and let the community know…

I’m so saddened and angry to see this, but thank you happywalker for helping out this poor little guy.

Is the pup being treated at VCA? If there’s a fund at that vet clinic for animals brought in in this way or for this pup in particular, I’d like to know how I could make a contribution.

Thanks so much hawkeye…,that’s so kind, As I was leaving the clinic, one of the assistants came up to me and told that another tech called her mother as she was looking for a small dog. Sounded like her mother was going to adopt him and pay for the surgery. That’s one lucky pup after such an awful incident. Everything happens for a reason.

Happywalker. Thank you for rescuing this puppy and being willing to pay for a health check and x-ray.

It sounds like this little girl/guy has a potential home. Yeah!

When a situation like this arises, and you take a stray pet to the Veterinarian, they also can contact Seattle Animal Shelter, (SAS), for direction and/or authorization to provide immediate care if needed. (of course SAS has to be open and the person with authority has to be available). SAS has a ‘help the pets’ fund which is used for needed medical/surgery for surrendered/stray animals in their possession, require.

The VCA clinic on California Ave,waived all charges since we could not get surgery or take him home. They did not charge us. The Adoptive mother is paying all surgery charges. He will make a great little pet for her.

Just wanted to commend you on rescuing this puppy happywalker! I believe you came into VCA Saturday afternoon when we were there getting a wellness check for our new kitten. We were already in an exam room and heard the yelping coming from the waiting room. It was heartbreaking!! Our tech explained someone had found and brought in an injured puppy. Sickening to read the back story and realize how cruel some people can be to innocent animals. Thank you for taking the time to get him the care he needed. Hopefully he is on the mend and settles in quickly with his new adopted family.
