DuckitudeMemberHi All: Any help with finding the perps shown in the pics and videos at http://www.duckiesrule.com/hallofshame.htm would be appreciated. I could describe all the details, but seeing is believing.
Not only stole a very secured ducky, but also prowled cars, tested locks, and stole from unlocked cars on private propert. 12:22 am to 1:04 am, June 4, 2009, 7031 Beach Drive SW.

DuckitudeMemberI should add. The perps stole items from my landlord’s car and he already reported it to the police. I additionally reported the crimes and attempted crimes and gave the police a bunch of still captures from the surveillance video.
Whether the police are able to apprehend these idiots or not, at least we are on record again, as a hot spot for vandalism, abuse, and thievery at this here south end of Beach Drive. Maybe they will increase patrols which have been lacking lately. The nieghborhood has asked for at least a drive through twice every night at about midnight and 1 a.m. when most of the illegal action is taking place.
Sometimes, I think we have beer can seedlings in Lowman Beach Park, there are so many new sprouts overnight… you know the scene.

miwsParticipantSorry to see this happening again, Duckitude. :-(
I don’t think I’ll ever quite grasp the mentality that makes some people think it’s okay to steal and vandalize other peoples’ stuff.

JanSParticipantBet they didn’t expect there to be cameras. They hardly look old enough to drive. Prep baseball, huh..wonder where? Parents..recognize your kids in the video? Maybe you need to learn to come down on them just a little harder – or did you never expect that your “babies” would do this sort of thing?
I’m so sorry this happened, Duckitude, but I’m so glad you posted these pics and the video..

GenHillOneParticipantLooks like a Seattle Prep shirt to me – can you tell if that’s a panther on there? Sent you a PM with contact info, Duckitude.

DuckitudeMemberHi All: Thanks for the support and information. Just a few further thoughts. In case you are wondering if I have a cranky side, I really don’t unless you wake me up from a nap… heehee…
My intent of waiting a day to call the police on this matter was to post the signs you see in the video and hope that the guy and girl would redeem themselves.
I am absolutely sure they have friends somewhere here in the neighborhood.
They didn’t try to redeem themselves in that 36 hour window… so.
I have posted pics of the female perp who may have been the driver of the car. They are pretty good, in that even though they are low resolution, her style of hair is very characteristic. (I think).
As for a panther on his shirt. I looked carefully, and it does look like just the outline of a panther face set in between the words on the front of the shirt.
So, under 21 with an 18 pack of Busch? Hmmm…

EmmyJaneParticipantIt might be worth contacting the Seattle Prep Administration and seeing if they recognize any of the kids. The car looks pretty nice so it fits Seattle Prep style…

EmmyJaneParticipantOne more thing… Got any ducky security guards that can keep watch while you sleep? Hehehehe.

DuckitudeMemberHi All: I work weekends, so I haven’t been back here all day. I have gotten a bunch of nice comments and assistance with possible perps. I am still researching what school shirt it is. It may be an older version of Seattle Prep, but not sure. The object sketched in between the words on the front of the shirt clearly is an animal face, but because it is just an outline and not filled in, it is difficult to figure out. Could be a bulldog. So, doing a little more research.
As for Guard Duckies… hmmm… haven’t found a true ducky that wants to hurt anybody or anything, so there is a dearth of applicants. Will have to consider some other animal… or invent a different kind of robot ducky. Now, there is an idea….

GenHillOneParticipantDuckitude, you’re being very generous…there are two “Preps” this side of Tacoma and only one has blue as a school color. And that one has many students in WS.
Yes, perhaps that was a Bellarmine Prep Lion (also blue) up here from Tacoma, but far less likely.
June 7, 2009 at 6:48 am #669046
DuckitudeMemberFunny how if you mistype prep you get perp…
At any rate, yah, it looks like the guy owns a Seattle Prep School Baseball T-Shirt. Don’t know if current or if he is out of high school, but…
Checking.

WSBKeymasterSend over the geese (or are they big ducks?) from the beach by the ferry dock, barely a mile south of Duckitude HQ. Those guys are FEROCIOUS. And we noticed the other night, they have very young reinforcements.
June 8, 2009 at 2:20 am #669049
DuckitudeMemberYou would think that the warning sign which is prominently lit, would be enough.
As you will note in the video, it says in large font “Vandals and thieves will be prosecuted this time around! Protected by Ducky Cams!” Uh, located right under the ducky that was stolen.
I guess if you can’t read, or, are not inclined to read, or, are too high to read, it doesn’t work well…. so, maybe the Goose Guard thing has merit. I like the sound of “Goose Guard” but I wonder if it might be mistaken for, you know, guarding your derriere?

DuckitudeMemberHi All: Turns out that two of the perps have been tentatively identified by schoolmates who viewed the video and pics. We’ll have to see how it pans out.
But, already, it appears that some bad blood is brewing, so I am hoping that things don’t get escalated by some kind of retaliation activities. Geez. Anybody heard of personal accountability anymore? Or is it just the new age of bullies and spoiled brats?
Turns out also, that the wife of the head of the athletic dept. at Seattle Prep used to be my landlord’s long time admin person and I met her when I first moved in to 7031A Beach Drive back in October 2004… small world. I imagine my landlord and Mr. Paulter will have some interesting conversations about all this…
June 9, 2009 at 3:48 am #669051
DuckitudeMemberHi All: Things move fast on the Internet. Someone id’ed the perps in the pics and video posted at http://www.duckiesrule.com/hallofshame.htm and sent anonymous tips last night to the athletic director at Seattle Prep and to me. A detective has already done interviews and apologies and confessions are coming in…
However, time will tell if the perps (preps?) can truly own their behavior and not just keep dissembling, because, so far, there appears to be relatively little understanding of the problem attitude behind the behavior and lots of whining. It’s not about whether they are guilty of a crime or not, it is about respect for your neighbors.
Pretty simple stuff, right?
I will keep you posted.
June 9, 2009 at 3:50 am #669052
WSBKeymasterGood to hear it. Do post the followup because I’ve found that crime victims get the best info from the police first – as it should be – you ought to know first what’s happening.
June 9, 2009 at 3:53 am #669053
JanSParticipantthanks for letting us know. The attitude that somehow they were just pulling a prank, etc, etc, is the attitude that a lot of us see going along with those who think they’re “priveleged”. It stinks. Any parent involvement yet?
June 9, 2009 at 4:14 am #669054
GinaParticipantOh, and that silly little matter of the 18 pack of beer. Without anything else, that was a suspension from sports in the public schools. Private schools may have different standards.
Is car prowling now considered to be a “prank” activity?
June 9, 2009 at 4:21 am #669055
GenHillOneParticipantIn addition to the law, Prep has a code of ethics for its students and I’m pretty sure this stuff doesn’t qualify as ethical.

DuckitudeMemberHi All: The wild kids have been caught. The person who id’ed them anonymously from the posted youtube video and the pics at “hall of shame” was correct. However, the responses to this “prank/small crime spree” has been from the very punitive to the “how can you [me] be so obsessed with your duckies?” As if, that is all that happened that night…
Well, I’m not so obsessed with my duckies. Just kind of obsessed with the issue of neighborhood respect and the signals that have been sent by two kids about what they may need some help with. So, looks like they will get the attention they need…. we hope.
As you might expect the embarrassment and the harrassment they are getting from the school mates and others is pretty incredible. I have taken down the videos and the webpage that I used to help speed up the process of getting an identification. That was the point of the page and the video… not to exploit or escalate taunting.
The outcome has been reasonably good for everyone so far. Hopefully, there won’t be any grudges or retaliatory stupidity.
Take care.
June 10, 2009 at 2:00 pm #669058
GenHillOneParticipantI’m glad to hear you’re getting some resolution, Duckitude – and that you’ve removed the video now that’s it’s served its purposed. As far as future “visitors,” let’s remind folks that a) the ducks are private property that provide a lot of enjoyment for the community and b) the escalated activity of a minor in possession and petty theft from cars (again, private property) is the even bigger issue, imho. So just because there happened to be cameras on the ducks, retaliation would be extremely misdirected. Some bad decisions were made, period.
June 10, 2009 at 5:20 pm #669059
celeste17ParticipantGlad the whole thing has been handled and come to a good conclusion. I hope the young offenders get help and come to realize that crime isn’t the way to go. Get an education and get a good job and pay back to the community. Did you get your duck back?
