charlabobParticipantThe power cord plug-in place on my laptop is loose–ie, I have to jiggle the cord to make the connection. It’s definitely the connection and not the power cord, which is only a couple months old. I know from experience this will only get worse and, eventually, stop working altogether. Any recommendations (or offers) for repair? I’d rather barter, or pay someone local…it’s a compaq presario v6000 if that matters. :-)

AnonymousInactiveNot necessarily true Charla. Could still be the cord. I bought a replacement for an HP (same company as compaq) and it would not push in deep enough to be secure. Every time I made the slightest move it fell out. Had to take an exacto knife and carefully trim off some of the rubber where it’s wider. About an eighth of an inch. Now it fits as snug as a bug. Although puppy has chewed through so many times, electrical tape is barely holding the rest of it together.

charlabobParticipantThanks, JT — trimming the rubber is a really good idea and, as they say, it can’t hurt.
Fortunately, our cats haven’t shown any interest in power cords — yet. :-)

KenParticipantThere are several laptops which have power connector issues which are covered under extended court mandated warranty repair due to lawsuits.
I have an HP here with the same problem but it did not get covered under a class action suit.
Look it up on google by model number.
I have repaired a few but the de-solder/solder process is kinda dangerous without special equipment.

KenParticipantIt looks like this model has a sub board that would be relatively easy to replace.

I would verify the part number with compaq/hp support before ordering and verify that the laptop is not covered under warranty before getting it repaired.
I could do it pretty cheap even though it would probably require complete dis-assembly.
