charlabobParticipantI don’t believe it’s too early to start this discussion :-) SO, who would you like to see on the ticket with Obama? (Repubs, feel free to chime in with your favorites too.)
I, personally, would like to see someone who speaks of blue collar workers, because she or he is one — rather than someone who pretends to speak for us and hasn’t been one for years.
This candidacy is dangerous — nontraditional — so we might as well take more risks. (I still haven’t gotten over the “fact?” that McSane was approached by the Kerry campaign to run in 2004.)
My “no way in hell” list is longer than my “yeah, hir” list at this point — so who’s on yours?
May 7, 2008 at 4:17 pm #623937
JenVMemberseems like a “duh!” but my choice is John Edwards.

JanSParticipantwonder if he’ll start to feel like “always a bridesmaid, never a bride”?

Or Condolezza Rice…HAH beat you to it McCain!

andreaParticipantas much as I would love to see John Edwards out there in the political fray again, I have a feeling any running mate will be more along the lines of those people who wouldn’t mind taking second seat…maybe John Kerry, Tom Daschle, or Howard Dean…Al Gore would be cool though too!
May 7, 2008 at 7:30 pm #623944
JanSParticipantKayleigh…I like Richardson, too, I also like Joe Biden…not sure if he would be interested, though. My personal opinion…I think John Edwards would like a cabinet post…
NR…not even funny…Jeremiah Wright indeed…he needs to go fade into 15 seconds of fame oblivion…
May 7, 2008 at 7:35 pm #623945
KayleighMemberYah, Jan—Edwards has an interest in housing so he might be good at HUD. Or the EPA. Or he’d be a kick-a** Attorney General!
I haven’t forgiven Biden yet for his unfortunately insensitve remarks re: Obama and being black. :-(
May 7, 2008 at 7:49 pm #623946
c@lbobMemberIt’ll be interesting to see what happens with Richardson — part of the “inside gossip” is that, along with assuming Clinton’s campaign debt, they’ll demand a say over who gets various positions — I’m guessing Richardson won’t be high on their list, and it will be a good test of our mettle to see how we react to such things.
I do kind of believe Edwards when he says he doesn’t want the job. Now that we know VPs can pretty much run the country, it would be an interesting combination.
I’d also like Chris Dodd, among the almost rans. Apparently 48 percent of the Clinton voters in Indiana claimed they would vote for McCain or sit it out if she didn’t win. Hmmmm remember back when we were accused of disloyalty????

flowerpetalMemberI know this is crazy; but I have heard this name bantered about more than once for Obama’s runnng mate: Oprah Winfrey! One theory being that it could lock in votes for those wanting a woman in the White House. But why would Oprah run? What would be her motivation?

charlabobParticipantSeems like a good time to bump this discussion — except now it’s almost too late. (Is everyone on the email/text message list?)
Currently, I’m a very strong supporter of Joe Biden — especially since it seems likely that the other side may nominate our leftover loser VEEP candidate, Lieberman. You could sell tickets to that debate :-)
Whose your choice?
August 20, 2008 at 6:55 pm #623950
mellaw6565MemberBiden has a big mouth – makes me nervous. I hope Obama makes a wise choice.
August 20, 2008 at 7:18 pm #623951
charlabobParticipantI’m actually in the “Anyone But Bayh” camp (although Birch Bayh, Evan’s dad, who’s a young 82, would be OK with me :-) My theory, which I’ll cling to until the announcement, is that we can’t nominate a sitting senator from a state with a Repug governor — Bayh is one of those.
Biden is mouthy — and often right. I suspect as second he’s quite capable of following, and advising, the leader.
August 20, 2008 at 7:21 pm #623952
JenVMembercharlabob, I am not on the email/text list and I would imagine not a lot of others are- so post as soon as you find out, ok?
BTW I just laughed out loud when I saw my response to you 3 months ago at the top of this thread!

JanSParticipantI’ve been in Joe Biden’s corner for a while. I like that his strength is foreign relations, which is definitely important more than ever. He’s head of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and yes, has a big mouth. But he’s not a scary dude..in my mind, it would be a great balance for what some call Obama’s lack of experience.

I know Michael Moore makes conservatives puke, but I think he’s got a good idea…
Carolyn Kennedy for VP
Why not?
August 20, 2008 at 8:39 pm #623956
KenParticipantI don’t like any of the supposed “short” list and still hope Obama is throwing out red herrings for those who are going absolutely nuts in the throes of “Veepstakes fever”.
Biden has made a couple of colossal mistakes in both foreign and domestic policy which in my mind offset years of good judgment.
And I can’t think of anyone who could fill the Cheney role of forestalling impeachment (or worse) any better than a Kennedy.
August 20, 2008 at 8:52 pm #623957
WSMomParticipantWhy would a Kennedy obstruct impeachment?
August 20, 2008 at 9:05 pm #623958
BayouMemberHe’s not been discussed as heavily as some of the other possibilities but I like Wes Clark for his military creds. I think he would be a strong candidate to get us out of the mess we are in overseas.
The Veep choice has to have political experience to compliment Obama’s ideals as well as counter the constant attack on his “lack of experience”. I don’t think that will be Oprah or Kennedy. Richardson wouldn’t hurt my feelings.
Anxiously awaiting my text message…
August 20, 2008 at 9:06 pm #623959
JoBParticipanti am not on the short list for VP info either.. unless all of those lists i seem to be on all want to be the first to let me know:<
i am not in favor of Biden.. but i still think it’s going to be richardson…
August 20, 2008 at 9:32 pm #623960
charlabobParticipantI don’t think it will be Richardson because Clinton (BILL, not Hill) has too long a memory. When he endorsed Obama, the talking and shrinking heads said, “Well, there goes his chance at VEEP.”
I dream of Al Gore — he is scheduled to speak Thursday night, the same night as the candidate. Damn, these tea leaves are getting bitter.
For the first time the Rasmussen poll shows people trust McCain over Obama to handle the economy. Um, anyone for setting up a quick IQ test for voting?
