JiggersMemberAm I the only one when waiting for he bus to take me to downtown that hates to stand up for longer than 15 minutes in the Junction? Why are there seats on Easy Steets side, but not Key Banks side? It seems that a lot of stops don’t have seats period. Just wondering Oh well.. maybe its because I’m getting older.

KBearParticipantDon’t worry! RapidRide will be here in 2021, with service every 10 minutes to the Whole Foods construction site, Gee Automotive, VFW, 35th & Alaska, 35th & Avalon, Avalon & Genessee, Avalon & Charlestown, and many other interesting locations before FINALLY leaving West Seattle to join the gridlock caused by the Spokane St. viaduct and Hwy. 99 tunnel construction. You’ll be able to wait while sitting down on the bus instead of standing at the stop. Hope you went to the bathroom before you got on the bus! (There’s a lovely port-a-potty at the Junction bus stop. It’s ADA compliant–specially scented so the visually-impaired can locate it easily.)
May 26, 2009 at 11:59 pm #667616You should not have to wait for the bus. You can look online and see when the bus is going to be there.
Eve though I ride the us; I advocate for removing all of the benches, as they really only provide a bed for those who are unwelcome.

miwsParticipantJiggers, I feel your pain, but I have a hunch that the reasoning is benches would clog up the already narrow sidewalk that can get pretty well blocked up with rush hour commuters simply standing there.
Metro may also reason that riders of the 54/55 could sit at the shelter for the 22/128. Of course, in reality, that’s a drag because you’d have to high-tail it up to the other shelter, once you see your bus arriving. Not to mention, likely ending up at the back of a fairly long line of other commuters waiting to get on.
I used to use that stop around 24 plus years ago, when I lived an apartment above Barnecut’s (then Venable & Wing’s) law office, and would catch the inbound 55 to work everyday. Haven’t used it too often in more recent years.
BTW, what do you think of the “new” shelter, that they finally put in back in, what was it, last Spring, after removing the old one the previous Winter or Fall?
Asthetically, anyway, I liked the old one better, as it fit nice with Key Banks sloping roof, and looked like an extension of it. I’m very much for function over form, but the new one just doesn’t look like it fits, and even appears that more rain would come through the gap between the bulding and shelter. And correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it lacking the nice semi-comfortable lean against bar the old one had, instead having the typical horizontal support bar?
I agree to, that it would be nice to have seating at more stops, but at the stops that are specifically, or maybe even primarily served by outbound routes only, the logic would be that they are not needed, since more passengers would
getting off busses, than on, if it’s not a major stop.

Bikefor1MemberJiggers, maybe it’s time for this?

SueParticipantThe sidewalk at the 54/55 stop there is rather narrow with the way the bank is, so there’s probably no room for it. Options would be to sit in the 128 shelter (which, was pointed out, you’d have to hurry from to get to your stop), or there’s a concrete ledge in front of Pharmaca (between the 2 stops) that’s also a option. Not ideal, but it’s better than nothing.

JiggersMemberDigressing here somewhat, but I thought that the city was going to beautificate that area between Key Bank and the Hamm building after they took the awening down both in front of K.B. and the Hamm building two years ago. It desperately needs a whole make over. I’m guessing that there is no money left for that project. The Junction looks worn down like a bad tooth.
