We just moved to Seattle from Phoenix and we couldn’t be more happy. We love it here in West Seattle! I wanted to try and reach out to other parents, or just get suggestions, on finding new friends for my daughter. She doesn’t live in Seattle full time yet, that’s a work in progress, so she doesn’t attend school here. She usually comes to Seattle once a month for a long weekend, sometimes twice a month. It would be great to find some other kids in our neighborhood around her age. She is 8. I’ve never been on a blog before, so I’m not sure how this all works. But again, any suggestions would be great. Also, any suggestions on anything in the area that you would like to share with a new resident would be great! Thanks.

The first place I’d steer you is the West Seattle YMCA. Lots of programs for kids, families, and adults: swimming, sports, dance, etc. They also have occasional family socials–the next one is 3/21. It’s a great place to network with other families in the area.

New Resident….I second the motion on the West Seattle YMCA…good resources there. And I’d like to welcome you to West Seattle. I’m originally from the east coast, so a transplant also…and I’ve been here in West Seattle for 33 years now. It’s a wonderful place to live. From walking in Lincoln Park, to Alki, to our Alaska Junction shopping area, you’ll find things to do for yourself, and things to do with your daughter. And the people on here are a wealth of information…so ask away….:)

JanS, Thank you for the welcome! We have been having so much fun exploring West Seattle! We’ve already found some places that are our “favorites”. I will definitely bring any other questions to this forum. Feel free to make any suggestions also. Keep in mind, we know nothing about Seattle and moved here on a last minute situation. I don’t know how we got so lucky to find a place and end up in West Seattle!

    Hey there NewResident:

Welcome! If you’re not otherwise engaged with the Superbowl, please feel free to join us at 4:00 at C & P Coffee on California this Sunday. We’re calling this group the “Seattle Anti-Freeze”.

Thank you for the invite, WSMom! We will definitely try to stop by. I was reading previous posts regarding Seattle residents not being friendly. I do have to say that people are more friendly in Seattle than they are in Phoenix, where we moved from. We’ve met most of our neighbors here and they are all very nice. Also, I am a flight attendant and I have found that our most friendly passengers are in the northwest! It’s probably because you do things like the “Anti-Freeze”! What a great idea. Thanks again!
