Both local high-school football teams have season-opener games tonight, both in West Seattle.

WEST SEATTLE HIGH SCHOOL: The Wildcats open their season against Eastside Catholic, 7 pm at Nino Cantu Southwest Athletic Complex (2801 SW Thistle).

CHIEF SEALTH INTERNATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL: The Seahawks open their season against Seattle Prep, 7 pm at West Seattle Stadium (4470 35th SW, Prep’s home field, so CSIHS is the visiting team).

Our photographer spent some time at both games but we are watching the Metro League scoreboard for finals. One is in so far: Eastside Catholic 47, WSHS 12.

Trivia: Peninsula High School in Purdy (Gig Harbor) is the first and oldest use of “Seahawks” as a high‑school mascot in Washington (1947) and predates the Seattle Seahawks NFL franchise (1976).
