kootchmanMemberWe should have seen it coming… At the time “American Idol” was the number one network show.

DBPMembercasa: Why do you think the “African Americans for Obama” video is controversial?
I mean . . . I think I know why it would be, but I don’t want to speak for others. If you give me your take on it, I’ll give you mine.
Thanks!!
Respectfully,
David

JanSParticipantyou know what? He’s a regular guy..and the commercial shows it. I see nothing wrong with a president relating to his constituents in this way. He drinks beer? Oh, the horror! But it’s OK with you that the wine flows at other president’s functions?
At least he doesn’t strap Bo on the roof of his car…about as relevant as this “commercial” to anything…
April 27, 2012 at 10:45 pm #756575
TanDLParticipantHaHaha… “Student loan debt exceeds one trillion” so in response, the Republicans want to raise interest rates on loans so that debt will be even larger. What a joke!
April 27, 2012 at 10:56 pm #756576
SmittyParticipant“At least he doesn’t strap Bo on the roof of his car…
Careful Jan – I bet you 10 out of 10 dogs would prefer riding on top of a car over being the main ingredient in the soup of the day….yuckie.
April 27, 2012 at 10:59 pm #756577
JanSParticipantyou do realize that in Indonesia, and other asian locales, eating dog is not frowned upon. And they eat some bugs that we would never eat, too. It’s a non issue. However…who in their right mind would strap a dog in a crate on the top of their car for a 12 hour ride, at 60-70 mph, and think that’s OK?
April 27, 2012 at 11:02 pm #756578
SmittyParticipantWe don’t live in Indonesia. But it certainly negates the seamus thing as an issue, I am pretty sure. Maybe not – we shall see!
Seamus had a windshield too – not like he was having 60 MPH winds in his face the entire time – although my dog would actually like that – I can’t keep his head inside when I roll down the winders.
April 27, 2012 at 11:04 pm #756579
TanDLParticipantCareful yourself, Smitty. What have you eaten when you’ve traveled to another country and why should that be a talking point in a U.S. election?
April 27, 2012 at 11:07 pm #756580
SmittyParticipantI don’t think it’s a talking point per se, just something all republicans will mention should the seamus thing ever come up again(like I did!) – which I doubt.

casabobaMemberDBP:
I received the link I posted from 7 or 8 different sources ranging from the far left to the far right, over the past six weeks.
In defense of the video, & for equity’s sake, I did a little Internet research…
I looked up “Mormons for Romney.” I FOUND them on the net. I looked up “White People for Romney.” I FOUND them also on the net. I looked up “Black People for Romney.” I found them on the net.
The difference versus the video link posted is that NONE of the links I found had Romney soliciting involvement in the group.
Hence some of the controversy. What’s your experience?
April 28, 2012 at 12:12 am #756582
DBPMembercb: My first experience of the video was via your post. I have to say that I was a little surprised . . . Here’s Obama saying: “As African Americans, you should vote for me.” That’s not precisely what he’s saying, actually. But close enough.
With a candidate of any other race, that would be fine, but since Obama is himself African American, it sounds like what he’s saying is “You’re Black and I’m Black, too! Vote for me because of my skin color.”
It’s hard for me to know how to feel about that. Of course African Americans are a natural constituency for the President, and it seems silly for him (or anyone) to pretend otherwise.
And yet . . . AND YET . . .
I follow your inference about Romney perfectly, cb. If Candidate Romney were to appear in a campaign spot for “White People for Mitt Romney” it would look bad. Very bad.
So why does Candidate Obama get a pass to appear in a spot for African Americans for Obama?
Double standard? Seems like . . .

So, that makes it okay?
I’m sure Willard must have tucked him in with a nice blankie as well….erm…..Mittens…..

JoBParticipantsmitty..
you do realize that the same commercial could have been made for the 8 years with the president everyone wanted to have a beer with.. don’t you?
kinda pointless.
on the other hand.. since i don’t watch much TV.. i gotta tell you i had no idea our president was so cool..
so thanks for the update?
i met the last one when he was just George’s wayward son..
cool is not the word i would have used to describe him.
April 28, 2012 at 2:38 am #756586
JoBParticipantok..
i watched the “controversial” video
and didn’t find it so controversial.
so i am going to ask you to watch it again
with your eyes closed
and ask yourself exactly what Barak Obama said that any democratic president who grew up poor in America wouldn’t have said.
the black community has always been a huge democratic constituency
that’s why the right is trying so hard to purge them from voter rolls..
yes, he’s half black..
he’s half white too
so will he be pandering to the white constituency
if he makes a similar video for a white voter’s group?
which.. btw.. he will
it just won’t be labelled controversial
will it?
April 28, 2012 at 2:40 am #756587
SmittyParticipantW was nowhere near as cool as Obama.
Not even close.
Obama is really cool – like Fonzi cool.

JoBParticipantApril 28, 2012 at 3:22 am #756589
SmittyParticipantThose silver spoon Kennedy’s (and I mean JFK) have nothing on Obama.
Obama is JFK on steroids.
And no, it is not a bad thing. I am just not sure I want Fonzi running the country.

JVMemberand ask yourself exactly what Barak Obama said that any democratic president who grew up poor in America wouldn’t have said.
JoB, he lived with his white grandmother who was the president of a bank, and he went to some of the best private schools in Hawaii! Is that what it means to “grow up poor in America?”
April 28, 2012 at 4:25 am #756591
JanSParticipanthe went to one private school in Hawaii, on scholarship, from 5th grade through highschool. Before that he lived in Jakarta, and went to school there.
April 28, 2012 at 5:39 am #756592
SmittyParticipant“Before that he lived in Jakarta, and went to school there.”
When he wasn’t busy eating hot dogs.

kootchmanMemberWho cares? BTW…. my dogs, dirty, and wet, all rode in the back of the pick-up after a day of hunting… all three of them. Open to the wind..and they loved it. They like to slobber and drool. Course they weren;t urban poopie doodles…the were working dogs. And their favorite sound was the dropping of the tailgate, and the sight of the shotguns sent them into a joyous dance. Oh yea,,, that’s where he became a Muslim, right Jan? ( ha ha ha …..Muslim or Mormon..they are having a difficult time with the choice in Mississippi) Yea Jan.. funny how that works..one of my brothers went to RIT on scholarship too…. after dad funded a chair in the graphics and printing school…. we know how that works.
