Who in West Seattle is reliable, competatively priced, has quality workmanship and is timely that can build a good 6 foot back fence.

I recently had Alpine fence do some work and was very happy. I’ve also heard good things about West Seattle Fence. They put in a beautiful fence around the backyard neighbor’s property. However, I tried to get ahold of them for our work and they didn’t return any of our phone calls.

I just went through this myself. We put a lot of research into it and decided on Alki Fence.

They came in WAY cheaper (like 25%-50%) of everyone else for the same bid. We saw some nice examples of their work around WS. The runner up was All City Fence – who had some beautiful (slighly fancier) examples. They did grades really well on hills and such.

We start in a few weeks, I’ll post my findings :)

We are currently having our fence built by James at West Seattle Fence. We asked for quotes from several companies and he came out first. Once we met him and learned of his value in getting dogs and kids safe first (via fencing), using only clear cedar (no knots whatsoever, no pressure treated, no twisting etc), his very personal service (it becomes art, not panels of any old lumber framed in), etc we went with him.

Now, he’s moving old chain link and doing latches the dogs can’t get at, always thinking of the pets and their safety (eg making gates open in – unless we object – so if dogs somehow got them unlatched and leaned on them – not likely, but jic – they’d only relatch instead of opening.

Well, he costs more because his materials cost more. And, man I am a bargain hunter but I see him as a true bargain. Fence next door is stained beautiful but gates’ z frames (whoops) go the wrong way so they already sag and it’s brand new; panels are “stepped” in uneven increments so it looks like the neighbor kids tried their best using a handbook to build it. Their wood looks pretty but all the knots will eventually shrink and fall through leaving holes, etc.

That said, please don’t hire him yet (if you choose him) because we still need him ;)

I know! But both dogs seem happy and love James. He’s got the dog proof portion done (probably why he couldn’t call shihtzu back (Sorry, shihtzu) right away if it was in the past few days. He’s a one-man company after (I think) over 15 years working for another West Seattle company doing fences. One day he was a bit late coming to our house and he called me to say he’d been on his way, found a stray dog wandering, and had to take it to find its owner (which he did). Our kind of man!

How are your babies today JoB? We have a couple here fixing bathrooms after a plumbing job and they keep tossing the ball for Gizmo who won’t let them get anything done. He loves the wife and just keeps waiting for her to play with him.

I wrote this post and have called James at WS Fence and he has never called back, over 2 weeks of trying. Thanks for your help, I’ll move on to Alpine Fence.

I also posted a good report on Angie’s list but it’s not online yet. Not sure why after so many days. The other posts re: west seattle fence are so old I’m guessing it was during a flustery start-up time for the new business.
