Need blades of manual mower sharpened and was quoted $45-$65 (can’t tell you until they see it) and a 1-2 week turnaround. Seems both expensive and slow. Anyone know better?

Have you tried the mower shop on First Ave South just off of 108th (border between West Seattle and White Center)?

Yes – just confirmed with the one who called – unfortunately, that’s who gave us the quote above.

Blade for my mower was sharpened at The Sharp Shop. I unfortunately do not remember how much it cost but turn around was within a day or two.

Sometimes it is cheaper just to buy a brand new blade. This also eliminates the possibility of metal fatigue. My brother had a recent case where half of the blade snapped off near the center of the blade.

For sharpening and also mower repair, I have been quite happy with Robert Forthoffer who used to work for the Sharp Shop. Rob is real good about telling you what is wrong and why. He is also fairly prompt – but keep in mind we are right at the start of the mowing season so most shops will be busy.

Junction TruValue hardware will sharpen your power mower blade for $8, same-day, they say.

Power mowers only, not the push kind. And you need to bring the blade in by itself, not the whole mower.

I haven’t tried them myself, but I’m going to.

He did my manual mower and turned it around in less than a day as well as some other tools. He’s good and reasonable and right here in West Seattle.
