Last night, through the clouds, I noticed a rosy afterglow that seemed different than the usual sunset palette, and which was visible much later. Today I learned an Aleutian volcano (Kasatochi) had ejected ash into the atmosphere, and that the cloud was coming this way. Now while I can’t promise a spectacle, I hope tonight’s sunset will be better than normal.
The upper low offshore (Upper lows are our curse this summer) may suck the ash away, but maybe not–this stuff is at 25-40K feet so may follow the jetstream. As a geologist/amateur weather foamer this piques two of my interests.
So cross your fingers and hope–maybe we’ll get a better chance tomorrow when the ash gets closer.
