sbreParticipantRecommendations sought for companies that offer meals delivered to seniors’ homes that are prepared with their special dietary needs in mind.
I am already familiar with “Meals on Wheels”, however am looking for alternatives or a variety to offer to my friend.
Thanks in advance for your input!

JanSParticipantsbre…will be interested to see how this discussion goes. I have sampled some “meals on wheels”, and frankly..leave a lot to be desired at times. Too much canned fruit in sugar, , too much fake tasting food. Cooking for a crowd, even if it has to be frozen, ain’t that hard. It can still taste like food, and be nutritious. I’ll keep my eyes open. I would assume that budget is limited, right?

JanSParticipantsbre…so far I’ve come up with:
1.http://kendalskitchen.com/product-tag/meat/ not cheap, but maybe they can work with you for a few meals a week.
2. For that matter, you could just order food from The Munchery for dinner (the food is delish, but not prepared with certain diets in mind – I’ve had numerous meals from them) http://munchery.com/invite/47BEH49F
3. Catholic Community Service says it has meal delivery…I don’t know if it’s different than Meals on Wheels http://www.ccsww.org/site/PageServer?pagename=seniors_seniornutritionprogram
4.Maven Meals – again…deliver, but do not customize…altho the menu is not too expensive..

There are other meal delivery services out there, like The Fresh Chef…no minimum order, I understand…but mostly they don’t specifically cater to seniors and special diets, although you could call them and inquire, I suppose.
Certainly gave me a few idea :)
Hope you find what you’re looking for. Is this person mobile? Can they get to the Senior Center for one of their meals?

sbreParticipantJan, thank you for all your work. Holy cow!!!
My friend has a few nickels to rub-together, so she’s not too restricted by the costs. However, with that being said, she’s got to this point by being frugal and smart with her money, so I’m sure she’ll take costs into consideration.
Her biggest need is as low in salt as possible, and any unnecessary sugar is also potentially problematic. So those two items would be her main focus.
She is mobile to a point, however the more we can keep her from having to leave her north Admiral area home the better.
Again Jan, thank you for your work and sharing it with us all.
Now it looks like I’ve got some work to do…

jissyParticipantSbre: You might want to look up Eat Local in Burien — I haven’t been there but been meaning to go, I hear good things about it.

VanessaParticipanthttps://munchery.com is a site for food delivery. I don’t personally have it as I work from home. I have 2 friends that LOVE it. Check it out. Bon appetite !
