trickycooljParticipantIt’s getting close to time for my annual skin check (I have some moles being monitored and one removed before 30 already with some family history) and I’ve also been having a lot of stubborn acne. I’ve been seeing a derm in Northgate in the same building (different practice) as my regular doc at Polyclinic. The one thing that has been nagging at me my last few visits to the derm is that they regularly are 20-45 minutes behind even if it’s the first appt of the day or after lunch which is aggravating enough when I don’t live across the street anymore but they just do these breeze in, “oh you look great, would you like a $100 acne cream with this coupon? See you next year!” 5 minute appointments. And of course the coupon is always expired. With all the ads for laser and cosmetic therapies around the office I feel like as a skin check/acne patient I’m a non-priority. So it’s probably time to move on.
Dermatologists are notoriously bad to get into as a new patient but maybe there’s someone closer to home (even Southcenter would be easier). I have also considered switching to one in the Polyclinic so at least there’s better visibility of my patient records between my primary and the derm. The e-records were great when my primary could see my physical therapy records.
Any suggestions near by or at Polyclinic?

kayoParticipantI went to Westside Dermatology in the Junction for adult acne this winter and had a great experience (my skin has completely cleared up after following doctor’s advice). I saw Sacaritha Bowers and she is great. She also did a skin check, but I didn’t have any areas of concern so I can’t speak to that issue other than that I felt like she did a thorough check.

sacatoshParticipantI liked Dr Suzanne Gee ok, but she definitely seems to be a little more “cosmetic dermatology” oriented than medical. She does both, and is adequate at the latter, but seems like she prefers the former. If you don’t find anyone else who is more of the “treat and prevent medical skincare issues” ilk, she’s a decent second option.

HomerParticipantI’ll charge half as much as they do and give you the same solution: Put some lotion on it.
Sorry, but no matter who I try,no matter what issue I’m having, it’s always the same response…”put some lotion on it”. I swear I could go in there with a broken nose and they’d say put some lotion on it.

squareeyesParticipantI go to Westside Dermatology as well and recommend them.

trickycooljParticipantThanks for the tip! Glad to hear we have a derm clinic in the neighborhood. I think they’re in my current network too which is nice, though the new buzz this week is that next year we get some new provider alliances that I should probably explore before I make my choice so I’m not jumping ship too much!
In another note, I read up on something called PocketDerm on reddit. You can visit a certified derm via telemedicine through their app/website for acne treatment only. $20/month and it includes all consultations and medication which they custom compound. Very interesting concept that I might consider if my latest skincare regimen doesn’t work. Though I still need an in-person derm for annual skin checks.

waterworldParticipantI see Marc Antezana at the Polyclinic at 7th and Madison, just off I-5 downtown, and I really like him. I’ve seen a few others and gotten the “put some lotion on it” suggestion in the past. Antezana is great. He’s given me very specific, inexpensive treatments for some icky rosacea and some other stuff, responds quickly on the e-records email system, and he’s never offered me any expensive cosmetic treatments or unguents.

gmabettyParticipantI use West Seattle Dermotology, across from Tru Value in the Junction. I see Dr. Colyer, recommended by my Primary Dr., but have seen others if can’t get him on short notice. All very nice. I’ve had several areas removed or frozen but none were more than pre-cancerous. My sister and one brother both had Skin Cancers so I don’t miss check-ups.
I don’t drive so its far more convenient than Polyclinic.
