I have an 11 month old, 3 pound, pomeranian named Casper who desperately needs a friend. He’s super playful at home with us but is either really shy or confused as to what to do when around other dogs. We take him to a puppy playgroup at Ahimsa Dog School once a week but would love to meet someone who lives nearby that we could have playdates with as well.

Casper spent a week with my parents’ 6 year old Yorkie in December and by the 4th day, he really warmed up to Carson (the Yorkie) and actually tried to play with him. Carson, being the old fogey he is, would have none of it :-(

ANYWAY, Casper is extremely friendly! He may bark on approach (due to his pathological fear of cars/bikes/pretty much anything that moves) but wants nothing more than to lick you to death.

SO if you have a small dog that might be a good playmate for Casper, we would LOVE to hear from you. We live on Alki but are willing to meet up anywhere in West Seattle.

Reply here or PM me and let’s set something up!

    Thanks!

Please consider welcoming a (spayed) toy female dog into your home as a companion to (neutered, I hope) Casper.

Toy breeds are moneymakers for puppy mills. Please adopt from a shelter or rescue group instead of buying a puppy/dog.

Who said I got him from a puppy mill?!?!

And unfortunately, adding another puppy to our family is not an option right now. But adding puppy friends definitely is :-)

    Thanks!

I didn’t say you got your eleven month old Pomeranian from a puppy mill, although IMHO there is a more than 50-50 probability.

I suggested adding a spayed female toy dog to your home. I requested that you “Please adopt from a shelter or rescue group instead of buying a puppy/dog.”

“And unfortunately, adding another puppy to our family is not an option right now.”

I did not suggest you add another puppy to your family. Maybe you are not aware that toy dogs often live into their teens. Maybe you are not aware that dogs need not be the same age in order for them to provide companionship to each other.

    NorEaster,

I know that there are Yorkie groups as well as Pug groups. I suggest joining a doggy play group and that will also help you meet others that your baby can play with! Doggy dates, those are the best

    Good Luck

Yorkielover, thanks for the advice. Haven’t found a pom group yet but will def give the search another try. So far, he’s the only pom at the playgroup we go to at Ahimsa.

And Scott B., I’m a little taken aback by you. I simply want to make local friends for my dog (I often see people walking their toy dogs, poms and other, on Alki and was hoping maybe they’d see this) and you take this as an opportunity to assume things about me and preach to me about animal rights. Sir, please step off your soapbox and find a different target. I have owned a variety toy dogs since I was young and am VERY aware of their characteristics and how to best care for one. You are VERY wrong in your “more than 50-50 probability” that I got my guy from a puppy mill. I have never and will never support those or pet shops. I’m not the Paris Hilton you want me to be sir. I don’t have a toy dog so I can carry it around in a purse or because they’re trendy. And I will further clarify, to add another dog, of any size/age/breed, is not an option now.

You have no idea what kind of person I am and jumped to all sorts of conclusions based on the kind of dog I have. If you only knew everything my dog has been through in his short life and how much my fiance and I have done for him you’d be singing a different tune.

All I wanted from my original post was some nice playfriends for my little guy, not to pick a fight with some self-righteous dbag who thinks he knows me when he could be more wrong…

    NorEaster,

I PM’d you earlier. I have a pomeranian also. Reply post if you have any trouble retrieving the PM (I’m not really sure how it works).

    Thanks!

True. I have some experience with dog rescue. Since I have/had no idea what kind of person you are, I am basing my more than 50-50 probability on these three things:

    1.) Puppy.

    2.) Toy breed.

    3.) Apparently urban residence.

“All I wanted from my original post was some nice playfriends for my little guy, not to pick a fight with some self-righteous dbag who thinks he knows me when he could be more wrong..”

At least I did not call you names. You cannot honestly say the same.

Oh for goodness sake-did you really need to respond???

Just let the puppies play already.

If you were directing your question at me, then my answer is yes.

Dogs have no say regarding their circumstances and living/breeding conditions. Humans control those things.

Scott, you’re getting in deeper with every step; you should probably walk away from this one.

It bothers me when people tell others to move along. We don’t get to pick and choose who responds to a public posting. Why the Scott bashing? All he did was advise getting a permanent playmate and separated that suggestion with a reminder of all the shelter dogs available. Good advice, in light of the puppy mill raids of late. All other assumptions were made of Scott, not the other way around. He chose to defend those judgments point by point. Certainly his prerogative. Just like it’s ours to ignore any post, present comment included.

Given the several emails we received I have decided to close this thread.
