TheHouseMemberBought them at WS Nursery this afternoon and enjoyed watching them feast on all the little craps that have been killing my herbs!
Gotta love them….1400 for only $8.99!

celeste17ParticipantWhat are the ladybugs good for? Do you just release them in the open or do you need a contained area?

AnonymousInactiveHouse – I’m with celeste as far as what they are good for?
I wouldn’t have the slightest idea (I don’t garden).
But, I would love to bring my daughter over, that would provide HOURS of entertainment! She loves ladybugs!
I heard that ladybugs are good luck. Waking up in a hotel room in Columbus with a lady bug in my bed, I’ll keep telling myself that!

AnonymousInactiveLadybugs eat all the aphids and other icky bugs that ruin your plants.

GreenSpacesMemberLadybugs will stay as long as you have something to feed them before they move on to somewhere else. They eat a ton of little problem bugs that destroy new growth on tender plants. When I had a big garden I would get a container every year, and I only had to do it once to break the cycle for the season.

TheHouseMemberYes, I knew they were good for the garden….that’s why I put them there.
Don’t tell anyone about my green thumb. I wouldn’t want to ruin my reputation.

ShibaguyzMemberWe have GOT TO go get some of those this year. I’ve never seen such an infestation of aphids before. We’ve been using the “kabotsky” method that Cisco recommends (thumb and finger = SPAT!) but for nine bucks I’ll let the ladybugs do the dirty work.

MunchkinMemberLater in the season if you see some alligator looking black and red bugs glued to just about anything, don’t squish them. They will be lady bug larvae. They attach at their tail and will change shape over time and become lady bugs.
BTW, still have that chicken we found about 2 months ago. Still no eggs though.

IrukandjiParticipantOnly one bag of ladybugs left at WS Nursery this afternoon. They say that Home Depot also carries them if you’re jonesing for the bugs.
