    Hello, neighbors!

I am getting a new (refurbished) laptop, and I am wondering if anyone has had experience with the free Kingsoft product. I’d rather use it than spend $$$ on Microsoft Office. Kingsoft got good reviews on CNET, and it has all the basics I need (except Outlook-style email).

By the way, one of the reasons I bought a refurbished laptop, besides that it’s a heck of a lot cheaper, is that it seems all new ones come with the dreaded Windows 8.

Be sure to look at the free open source suite,

… which has a more consistent update release schedule than http://www.openoffice.org

I started using OpenOffice about eight years ago and I’ve never looked back. It’s awesome and has/does everything I need. And I know some people think Libre and King are even better. Granted I don’t have Outlook, but with gmail and Google calendar I haven’t missed it. You can’t really go wrong by trying one of the free, open sources, right?

I use and recommend Libre Office. Just be careful setting up any of the free suites. You have to go into the settings and make sure it is set to save and open Microsoft Office files.
