rockergirlMemberInteresting post on U tube from Neighbors for Nickels –

The truth is that Joe Mallahan is woefully inexperienced, has never before held public office or participated in a significant way in Seattle’s civic affairs, has not bothered to vote in many recent elections, and is notorious among those who follow the race closely for his numerous gaffes, false statements, and admissions of ignorance on the campaign trail in recent months.

TrisketParticipantHere’s a good example about how Nickels puts his “values into action”… he started at home.

JanSParticipantTrisket…I may not care for the man as a mayor, but sometimes we have no control over what our grown children do. You can teach them the best values you can, and still..well, s*it happens. Nickels is not responsible for the poor decisions his son made, just like you would not be responsible for the poor decisions your grown children make.

JoBParticipantHMCRich..
the things you make me do:( back to the voter’s pamphlet..
Mike McGinn.. he’s a community activist. He pushed through the parks levy and he successfully fought against more roads. He wants to stop the tunnel. He is in favor of expanding light rail and investing in better bus service..
anyone know where he was on the monorail project? if his current rhetoric is any indication, he wasn’t exactly for it…
Seattle has started over on the transportation question too many times for me…
James Donaldson… He played for the sonics… and he wants to give kids free bikes… in short he says we can expand our services while paying less if we cut bureaucracy..
while i applaud his goals, i don’t see anything that tells me he knows how to do anything but play basketball. he did know how to play basketball, didn’t he?
Greg Nichols.. he’s doing the job now. Says he helped keep light rail on track, gave us better roads, buses and bike lanes and lowered our crime rate…
With hubby working in the stadium district i have had a first hand look at traffic planning and i am not so sure the better roads claim holds up:(
Joe Mallahan… he’s local (Wallingford) and he is an exec at T-mobile… and as such he facilitated turning on free service for prepaid phone customers.. because they would have trouble finding stores open to refill their accounts. So.. he kept t-mobile pre-paid customers connected. he thinks the city needs a good manager… lots of promises, but no plan:(
Kwame Wyking Garret.. no experience but lots of ideas of how things should be… i like many of his ideas… i wish he had the wherewithal to turn ideas into real solutions.
Jan Drago.. has paid her dues in neighborhood and city govt… thinks Seattle is practicing “hardball chicago style” politics when we need to be more cooperative.. especially on a state level.
She would bring the tunnel in on time and under budget… increase police presence and empower neighborhoods.
I agree with her, but her blurb in the pamphlet doesn’t say enough about what she has accomplished or how what she will do and how she will do it.
Elizabeth Campbell… she comes form a pioneer family and her grandaddy was a governor. She has been a strong proponent of special education, citizen’s rights, land use and development and a “public voice for equity, diversity, neighborhoods, government transparency and civic fiscal responsibility”.
She is anti-tunnel but embraces un-named efficient and common sense transportation solutions.. she’ll re-set priorities to adequately fund police and fire departments and deliver public parks that are crown jewels.
I wish she had provided actual examples of the work she has done so i would have a more accurate idea of where she stands on the issues…
Norman Zadok Sigler… he thinks city hall ought to listen to citizens. he favors incentives for businesses to cluster in all neighborhoods, partnering with other cities, counties and the state to pool healthcare purchasing power for all city employees.. and then offering the plan to businesses with less than 20 employees, wants to involve community organizations in solutions for the schools and is opposed to the tunnel.
I like the idea of an insurance pool.. but wonder what he thinks we should replace the viaduct with.
Mike McGinn, Greg Nichols and Jan Drago all have actual experience with managing city issues. Mike McGinn and Greg Nichols both cite accomplishments. Mike McGinn will kill the tunnel option. Greg Nichols will continue but doesn’t mention budget over-runs which will be the responsibility of the city. Jan Drago says she will bring the tunnel in on time and under budget.
I am not so much pro tunnel as pro plan.. any plan.. that can be implemented before the viaduct either falls or is taken down… so that takes Mike McGinn off the table for me.
I like Jan’s commitment to fiscal responsibility where the tunnel is concerned and her assessment of the need for cooperation at a regional and state level.. but am left without the information i need to asses her ability to deliver.
Perhaps Mayor Nichols isn’t so bad after all?
Not much of an endorsement, is it?
i did wiki Jan Drago because i agree that the current leadership style in Seattle is too top down and i wanted to know more about who she was and how she gets things done.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Drago
she does have some pretty substantial accomplishments.. but she is also the council member who is responsible for transportation.. and the storm aside.. i am so not impressed with traffic planning in the downtown core…
what to do??? what to do???

HMC RichParticipantOH JoB, Wow, Thanks. I was just agreeing with Jan but you gave me the frosting on the cupcake when I was just passing by the window looking at the display.
