AnonymousInactiveAll I know is my household relies on commission/tips and the paychecks have gone down by 30% this year. Utility, gas, and food bills have all gone up. Vision and dental are about to be cut and the rumor is the company is going to stop paying for medical all together soon. That will easily add another $300 bill to the budget.
There are certainly many things all in my head. Barely being able to pay bills, isn’t one of them. And before TheHouse jumps in, yes, I know there are always options and choices.
One of those choices is no more discretionary spending. Last year it was easy to eat meals out 3-4 times a week and buy coffee every day. Now it’s once a month, if that. Absolutely no big ticket purchases, but all the little things have been cut out too. Which in turn, lowers someone else’s paycheck.
We have a million things to be thankful for and no one over here is whining. So many people have it much harder, or have nothing at all. Just saying, things have become more difficult and I don’t believe I’m imagining it.

JanSParticipantI don’t believe you’re imagining it either, JT. Being in the business that I am , I am finding that people are coming less if they’re cash clients. Insurance clients will always come as long as there are benefits.77
What amuses me most about those videos is…Phil Gramm (grimm? lol), John McCain, et al. (Cindy McCain, Ms. Budweiser 2008)…all have tons of money. Of course it’s not hitting them very hard. They need to walk in your/our shoes for a while. Maybe they’d think differently. I’ve always said that most politicians are super out of touch with the realities of the “common folk”. They can raise millions of dollars to help them campaign at the drop of a hat…of course they see us as “whining”.

GenHillOneParticipantJust as I was reading this post, Allstate commercial came on the tv. Starts with “If this isn’t a recession, it sure feels like one…” – if it were just psychological, there are some who are doing a good job of putting it in our heads!

JanSParticipantTrick…using Phil Gramm and psychological in the same sentence…well, yeah, that does work in a way ;-)

JanSParticipantoh, Ken…I suspect it was the bj reference, we gotta remember that this is a “family friendly” forum :) Trying to think of a PC term…not coming up with anything – lol…

WSBKeymasterYes, graphic references to sex acts, even if meant metaphorically, will get a comment deleted. Thought we’d explained that before. For better or worse, this isn’t Slog. – TR

KenParticipantFine. So long as Glass-Steagall is not considered a dirty word. People deserve to know it was both conservative Dems and Repubs who created the financial meltdown we are watching. But Phil Gramm had a greater part than he will currently admit.

JoBParticipantit’s not psychological when even those with great salaried jobs are feeling the pinch… (hubbies, not mine)
i am looking at $1,000 to put heating oil in the furnace this fall… and i am not sure if moving to a place with better heating options would change things much.
We are lucky. we can pay it.. but i worry about those who can’t.

mellaw6565MemberIt’s psychological – my wallet is having a meltdown and needs restorative therapy!

TrickParticipantNothing like some good loopholes, less regulation, and a lazy justice department, to just turn around and bail them out with our shackels.
“This nation is a bunch of Whiners” Doesn’t that constitute for whining? JMO
July 23, 2008 at 7:12 am #631847
JanSParticipantI really don’t understand what Mr. Gramm was *whining* about…he’s got tons of money…why would he care about my worries. Yes, it constitutes for whining :)
