    Since 1896, Children’s Home Society of Washington has helped provide children and adolescents with strong families, loving stable homes, and their best chance for happiness and success. We are seeking individuals and couples interested in providing temporary or long-term care to foster youth, as well as part-time respite providers. Please DO share this info with your contacts in King, Pierce, and Snohomish Counties!

    There are no fees associated with becoming a licensed foster parent and the required training is free. Our staff assists applicants during the entire licensing process, from the initial application until your foster care license is issued. Our staff will then work closely with you to select a youth who will be a good fit in your home. After placement, you will be provided with regular support, advocacy, and ongoing training. Foster parent receive a monthly financial stipend and respite services.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    Who are foster children?

    There is no “typical” foster child. A foster child may be:

    -Between the ages of 0-18 years old

    -Any gender identity

    -Any sexual orientation

    -From any ethnic, racial, cultural, religious, or socioeconomic group

    -In touch with their birth family or have no contact at all

    -Have specific needs related to the trauma of out-of-home placement, physical/emotional/sexual abuse, and physical/emotional neglect

    Who are foster parents?

    -Single, partnered, or married

    -Any age over 21 years and older

    -Any gender identity

    -Any sexual orientation

    -From any ethnic, racial, cultural, religious, or socioeconomic group

    -Have other children in their home or no other children in their home

    -Stable home environment (you may rent or own)

    -Healthy outlook on life

    -Patience

    -Kindness

    -Dedication

    -Sense of humor

    What are the benefits to being a foster parent?

    -Opportunity to make a positive impact on a youth’s life

    -Ongoing training and support from CHSW staff

    -Assistance with youth’s educational needs

    -Monthly monetary stipend to cover the youth’s care and needs
