angelescrestParticipantYep, I was heading east towards the bridge, trying to keep it to 30–with a trail of lights closely on my tail, when someone in a smaller, black SUV (Olds?) made the most idiotic decision to pull out RIGHT in front of me from that Luna Park connection, making a left to start heading uphill on Admiral. What the hell (sorry) were you thinking? You didn’t see me approaching just a few yards away? Seriously, 7 o’clock this evening, you know who you are, you heard my horn, and everyone who didn’t smash into me or the car in front of them (including the driver of the SUV who would have been T-boned by me), knows how lucky we are THANKS to the 30 mph speed limit.

BonnieParticipantSo sorry you had that happen. My husband’s grandparents used to live on a street that was right off of Admiral Way (it is called Fauntleroy but the street that is off of Admiral is a different name, about halfway down toward the bridge). Anyway, we used to drive down that street quite often and trying to make a left hand turn was quite tricky because we were always afraid someone would hit us. Everybody was always going so fast. So yes, there is a reason.

cathywMemberGlad you weren’t hurt. That is a really dangerous section of road. When we first moved to West Seattle, a driver was killed in a head on collision near that spot. Another driver had crossed the center line and drove right into him.

swimcatMemberI’m glad you’re okay- people do this kind of crap to me almost every time I hit the road. It is mind-boggling, since I ALWAYS drive with my headlights on so the car is quite visable…
Which reminds me… not to highjack the thread, but why can’t people just drive with their headlights on all the time????? I see too many cars during dusk, dawn, rain and fog that don’t have their lights on- the worst offenders are drivers of dark cars. Just turn your lights on people- the bulbs won’t burn out any faster and it is safer for everyone.

CMPParticipantI don’t think headlights being on would help most of the moronic and oblivious drivers out there.

datamuseParticipantI thought newer cars came with automatic always-on headlights by default, though my Prius (2007) didn’t so maybe I’m wrong.
The original post highlights another phenomenon I see on Admiral (and on Highland Park Way, which is a similar stretch of road) all the time: frequent tailgating, whether the person at the front of the line is speeding or not.
I mean, talk about obnoxious. Passing lanes exist for a reason, and if you can’t pass, back off. Tailgating ain’t gonna get you there any faster, and in situations like Angelescrest describes, could net you a crumpled hood.

JoBParticipantangelcrest..
i am glad your story is of an almost collision and not a real one.. and that the cars behind you were paying attention…
the life we save when we slow down might be our own.

LeroniusmonkfishMemberI remember when “daytime” running lights were being offered yet I bought an 07 Mazda3 and they don’t have them? I drive some pretty off the beaten track roads here in AZ and always keep my headlights on during the daytime. The speed limits here are either 65 0r 75 on two lane roads and I want to be seen when someone is trying to pass that RV on a two lane road.
