SonomaParticipantJust a heads-up that West Seattle’s own Harry’s Chicken Joint got a rave review in the current Stranger. Congratulations!

4th of EightParticipantGreat folks and food (maybe a little bigger menu of offerings?). I haven’t seen The Stranger review, but I second Sonoma’s rave. The new Chopstix down the block from there is awesome too. Been there 3 times now for the great Honey Walnut Prawns!

i didn’t see it when it was meanders.. so it has nothing to do with harry’s

kgdlgParticipantTried it again tonight due to Stranger rave. And because I really want to support these little neighborhood joints. They were out of a bunch of stuff probably due to long weekend. My daughter loves the strips. The batter still doesn’t do it for me, too heavily seasoned and salty, but the chicken is cooked perfectly inside. I had the chicken and biscuit with gravy, sub mashed BC they were out of biscuits! The gravy really cut the saltiness of the chicken well and I loved the potatoes. The staff is warm and inviting, although the cook seems pretty stressed these days. When my daughter spilled her ketchup they were very accommodating. A great place for kids. Next time I will try the po boy!

JanSParticipantI’m sure having the review plus a long weekend helped to deplete some items…I have yet to try it…

4th of EightParticipantJanS; it’s about one block or so north of O’Neill Plumbing on the east side of the street, just south of Raymond street. Enjoy. (Oh my.. their Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and real gravy…!!!)

trickycooljParticipantI really liked the strips I had there about a month ago. I was bummed that they only sell whole or half chickens since it was just dinner for 1 and even though I had been gardening all day that was too much, still want to try their regular chicken. Potato salad was on the sweet side for me, like it was made with miracle whip. It was about 7pm on a Saturday and they were also out of many sides that evening. They’re a pretty small operation so I can imagine a heavy traffic weekend day could put a major dent on their supplies. Hopefully they’ll be able to gauge their supply needs a little better in the future. But I would rather see things 86’d than thrown away at the end of the night.

kgdlgParticipantMy observation (and this is totally my own assumption from sitting at counter for a while) is that the cook is pretty busy on his own and doesn’t have time to replace things as they run out. While I was there, the vast majority of the orders were take-out, which left the waitress kind of just hanging out. I hope that in the future they can look at their distribution of work to ensure that they are not out of so many items at once. I know this is a hard issue for a small shop with limited capacity for new staff. Perhaps they are still in the process of accurately projecting orders and are hesitant to over purchase things. In general I think they fill a nice niche in Morgan, especially in the summer when you want to grab and go to the beach!

JanSParticipant4th of eight…it’s in the old Meander’s spot…a place that I frequented often…:)
