GenHillOneParticipantYou keep posting this over and over and I’m only guessing here, but I suspect it keeps getting removed because it’s basically advertising and not within the forum rules. This particular one isn’t going to get you many customers without contact info anyway, so I guess it’s moot.

Aside from the OP, I’ve seen a lot of people missing the fact that this is a “jobs offered” category lately…as in you have a WS job opening that you are looking to fill…and it’s mildy annoying. Perhaps my own issue, lol, but since I know so many people looking for work (who aren’t misunderstanding the category), it annoys me. *steps off soapbox*

JustSarahParticipantGHO, agree! I kept my mouth shut, but you’re absolutely right that this is a “jobs *offered*” category. I can’t help inferring that the people posting their desired jobs are unemployed for a reason; many of the posts make the poster look pretty lazy, honestly. This particular post wasn’t as bad, in my opinion, but definitely qualifies as advertising.
The ones that are really annoying are those from the people who post saying they want such-and-such job, asking others to e-mail them if they know of any such jobs. Really? Do your own research. Find your own job. (Or work with a placement agency.)

DianeParticipantThank you so much GenHillOne; I totally agree and am so glad to see someone else express my feelings so well
~
I too have seen way to many people posting ads on the forum for their services, and very frustrating for me as I do follow the rules, and I am searching for work, and I provide services in West Seattle, but I do not post ads on here
~
I wonder how the sponsors who pay to advertise on westseattleblog feel about people who post ads on forum for free
~
not sure if the folks who keep advertising on the forum just don’t bother to read the rules, or perhaps the jaywalking variety, just taking the chance that they won’t get caught/flagged
~
I used to flag ads, but I started to feel like I was annoying TR with almost daily alerts of ads on the forum
~
the only time I post my info on here is in response to requests for child care, which is within the rules, and I have connected with several families via this forum to provide services in that way

thelmasueMemberi’ve wondered about the rules here, too, and just sent an email to the eds. asking them for clarification. glad you all brought this up.

DianeParticipantSarahScoot, I agree with you to some extent
~
re why some might post on here that they’re searching for a job; in my job search, I hear every day, you have to network, ask every person you know if they know of a job opening; I do a lot of networking, mostly in professional forums, but I rarely do the “tell all your friends” because I get tired of hearing “oh god, everyone is looking for a job”; not at all helpful, very discouraging, depressing; I can get enough of that on my own just listening to the news; and most people who have a job don’t seem to understand how really hard it is to get employment of any kind these days; I apply for average 10 jobs per day, am highly qualified and educated, have several resumes for the many different types of things that I can do very well, and go to job fairs, networking events, and advertise daily on Craig’s List, ……….still at it…….it gets exhausting……..the best quality I’ve developed is resilience, not giving up, keep a smile on my face, keep trying
~
and re why someone might want to place ad in forum; many who provide services, who like me may advertise on Craig’s List, which goes out to all of Seattle, and beyond; most of my clients, and my desire for more would be in West Seattle, and there really is no better forum in our neighborhood to get the word out than westseattleblog; with that said, it’s a catch 22, until I get more work, I cannot afford to advertise on here to get more work

voodooMemberDiane – I’m with you; rules are rules. I am happy to take up the slack of annoying TR with flags on inappropriate posts. ;-)

JanSParticipantoh, I’ve been taking up some of the slack ;-)

DianeParticipantthank you for flagging support; nice to know I’m not alone in this

thelmasueMemberhi diane,
i read the “sticky” before writing my previous post. the rules say one can “Post a job opening in the West Seattle Jobs Offered section.” they don’t address “jobs wanted.” some other sections have more detail about what is and isn’t allowed; perhaps it’s time for clarification in this area too. i.e., perhaps the rules should explicitly state that it is NOT appropriate to put “job wanted” posts here, if that’s the case.
but, maybe the blog is okay with these posts – that’s why i asked them for clarification. i believe it’s their call to make.
good luck to all in your job searches, btw!

JanSParticipantthelmasue..if you read the title, it speaks for itself, it seems.
“West Seattle Jobs Offered – If you have a West Seattle-based business, you can post a job here.”
There is nothing in there that says “jobs WANTED”, just jobs OFFERED.
I think maybe the jobs wanted thing is not included because…imagine how many people are looking for jobs, and if they all posted threads about wanting a job, it would be never ending. So, it pays for them to look to see who is hiring instead.

DianeParticipantthe sticky seems pretty clear to me; and the OP who was advertising services as housekeeper/housecleaner did not post within these rules
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
from the sticky:
First, our forum “advertisement” rules:
If you are a business or serviceperson you CAN do any of the following here in the WSB Forums, absolutely free of charge:
-Respond to a request for recommendations in your line of work, provided you identify yourself (no recommending a business without saying it’s yours or you’re related to it!).
-Post about a deal, sale, or free offer in the Freebies, Deals, Sales section (bonafide major price cuts on merchandise/services, not just consultations – we reserve the right to evaluate whether a deal posting crosses the line to “free ad”).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I seem to remember couple years back, shortly after forum started, that they made a stab at offering a jobs wanted option; my guess is that was too much work to monitor when way too many try to bend the rules or not even read the rules, and that was before the recession; I’m with JanS, now a job wanted section would be a nightmare for them to monitor
~
And for those of us who are a “serviceperson”, offer a service, have a service to sell, it would be terribly unfair to all the sponsors who pay to advertise on here, for me to place a free ad in the forum; I totally get that
